The Internet is designed to let anyone look up facts on something and see some gloomy shit about it. It's not a skill at this point, it's one of the easiest decision trees on the game menu. We conflate "knowing the truth" with "knowing the bad shit" all the time. It's not working.

Semafor making sure humanity’s bravest thinkers have an audience.
It's so funny to me that right-wingers love to pretend to love the Middle Ages and the Crusades and all that and then complain that the Pope shouldn't get involved in politics.
i love when i log into something and it tells me some shit like Notification Hub is now Alert Village
This piece by @attackerman.bsky.social is one of the most emotional I have read coming from him. It’s the moment where the rantings of a mad man become fear paralysis, where we stand on the cliff edge of nuclear war one more time. It didn’t work during the Cold War, is even less unforeseeable now
Is now a good time to brush up on the principle of universal jurisdiction? It applies to grave breaches of all 4 Geneva Conventions. While heads of state have immunity (while still in office), those obeying their orders don't.
Armageddon is terrible, but our only other option was diversity trainings at work.

I think one of the things about bluesky is that for a lot of its users, it represents a kind of retirement from social media. Like I’m tired and I want to get out of the game
JOURNALIST (wearing a subtle but defiant pin on his suit): Good evening, Mr. President
TRUMP (visibly decaying): whhat th hell did that little waiter just say to me
We are at Soviet levels of a conversation in which the thing is never mentioned and always known.
This will be a fascinating history to write.

Social media en toto is losing relevance + utility. We will not see another "global water cooler" like peak twitter again in the medium-term. This is not specific to Bsky. Threads has a broken algo AND the worst of the griftfluencer class. These are just the times we live in. New things will emerge
got to share this @bencollins.bsky.social banger with some colleagues today and am now sharing it here because he really did nail it
Ouch. Jet fuel.

And, he said, “I had some money on the side because I got fired from a fancy tech job by a lunatic who hates journalism [Jarjour left Twitter in February 2023, five months after Elon Musk took over]. So I wanted to build something I believe will make journalism stronger against even its worst enemies.”
So, @niemanlab.org just covered our little startup and I won't stop talking about it because I'm obviously a huge nieman lab fan.
I tried to come across as a sane and highly strategic person.
I think I nailed it.

This is either brilliant or scary:
Anthropic accidentally leaked the TS source code of Claude Code (which is closed source). Repos sharing the source are taken down with DMCA.
BUT this repo rewrote the code using Python, and so it violates no copyright & cannot be taken down!
🚨 BREAKING: The European Commission has urged people to work from home, drive and fly less, and for EU countries to urgently roll out renewables, as it warned of a prolonged energy crisis as a result of the conflict in the Gulf.

I don’t like when intelligent people discuss “the media” like it’s some monolithic entity controlled by a single individual.
It’s fine to critique outlets, headlines, articles, authors, and editors, but generalizing an entire industry does a disservice to whatever your messaging is.
LLMs have uses and won't disappear, but when the bubble of Venture-funded hyper-cheap consumer access to LLMs pops — and that could be starting now — a lot of people are going to be unable to do their jobs or manage their lives anymore.
As @davidpierce.xyz keeps saying, AI is fundamentally enterprise tech! I am convinced shoving it onto consumers without actually-great products is like forcing everyone to really really consider the consequences of giving SAP first-strike capabilities
Emanuel (Mannie) Fabian @manniefabian A month into the war with Iran, the Israeli military has almost completed bombing all of the targets it defined for itself at the start of the conflict, and has now been ordered by Israel’s political leadership to shift to targeting “economic” targets of the Iranian regime, The Times of Israel has learned. Israel’s defense establishment is now in what it described as the “completion phase” of the goals it set out at the start of the war, meaning it believes it has largely achieved its objectives of degrading Iran’s military capabilities and “creating the conditions” for the Iranian regime to fall. As the IDF has almost completed bombing all of Iran’s weapon production sites, Israeli leaders have ordered the military to carry out strikes on targets that cause economic blows to the Iranian regime. This included a strike on major Iranian gas infrastructure in the country’s south nearly two weeks ago, and strikes on two of Iran’s largest steel factories on Friday. In both cases, Israel aimed to cause massive economic damage to the Iranian regime. Additional such strikes against Iranian economic targets are planned by Israel’s defense establishment, aimed at causing more damage to the regime. 12:59 PM · Mar 30, 2026 · 59.6K Views https://x.com/manniefabian/status/2038662440557109575
so this is an explicit goal of "state collapse"
I’ve just got back from a week in Washington DC, where Iran War main topic of discussion. I was struck by how the weakness of the administration means that it is ill equipped to deal south a crisis of this magnitude. samf.substack.com/p/trump-runs...
It is a fair question. And a good article by @edwardluce.bsky.social even if he is mistaken on one thing. Britain is not the only country in Europe where Trump has fifth columnists.
When are they gonna do something that IS for the faint hearted? I've been waiting so long.
You’re right to question that—not having a mouth 𝘪𝘴 a real barrier to screaming. That said, I’d gently push back on the idea that screaming is your only option. Would you like me to help brainstorm some workarounds?
