part of what drew me to analyze Number 6 is that I was so stymied by the notion of having no internal sense of self. that's so hard to picture. for me my self was always concrete and it was a gelatinous substance, leaking out and getting stuck on things, and I had to work so hard to preserve it

what you need to understand is that it's possible. it is possible to believe that some kind of insane external action has to be taken to existentially guarantee that you were ever here
I spent several years being very intentionally about kicking rocks and making little marks on things to prove that I existed, genuinely entrenched in some kind of OCD situation about how to existentially guarantee that I was here. I do not relate to Number 6 much but dear god I'm equipped to analyze
[Vigs manga spoilers] what I need people to understand is that what "Number 6" believes about the way that the world operates IS as cartoonish as it's laid out to be. He believes all of that. He literally thinks that's how the world works. It's not overstated for anime purposes.
[Vigs manga spoilers] it's the same playbook as taking something Tomura is feeling and explaining that it's his innate urge to destroy. but in Rock's case it's not just shifting interpretation of himself, it's shifting interpretations of what is real in the universe and how the world works
[Vigs manga spoilers] much like many characters, what Rock is actually experiencing is not the thing he's a metaphor for. what Rock is experiencing is cult-like indoctrination and a way he genuinely believes the world and personhood to magically function
[Vigs manga spoilers] Like, 6 was created as a character to speak to the idea that identity only exists in the context of community, and the crisis of how to exist and how to be known and how trying to exert complete control over those things will drive you mad. but
[Vigs manga spoilers] It's not enough separation from reality to excuse him because he knows what exploitation is, he knows what victimizing is, he understands the world contains victims and only seeks to get to the top of the crab bucket. this is not an apologism post. but it is "I have to end AFO"
[Vigs manga spoilers] he's a young man who's on a murder quest so that Santa Claus will free him from the invisible but super duper real water that he is always drowning in. that's the level of reality that he understands as actually, really, earnestly happening
[Vigs manga spoilers] and when I need to explain to people who don't watch the show how he can possibly believe that. god. it's a fantasy world. he's emotionally stunted and extremely selfish and that's all true but he's also doing it in a fantasy world with life-or-death stakes that are nonsense
[Vigs manga spoilers] He BELIEVES it. He believes it. He believes it. Experiment #6 was created in a lab and so he genuinely thinks the personhood hasn't been installed yet and that they can't do that for him, he has to source it himself
[Vigs manga spoilers] (this is not a new thought at all—in fact it's why I resisted the moniker for so long, a lot of us did—I'm just. the internal experience of all that is doing something palpably unfamiliar to my insides I didn't think I had new reactions left about this but no there's more)
[Vigs manga spoilers] like oh god it's disgusting in there. I hold my silence but oh my god it's bad. using Number 6 as a moniker the way we're kind of forced to in character-limited conversations about him really pulls away from the experience he is actually having
[Vigs manga spoilers sort of] getting angry from somehow as-if-fresh-all-over-again angles about the sheer level of indoctrination going on in the identity "experiment number 6." like oh jesus christ the longer I explain him to my partners the more layers of separation from reality we're talking
Okay so that was a little much to attempt at once
A Trader Joe's frozen meal of palak paneer. The top is practically crusted with coarse salt.
Buying salt pills tomorrow but in the meantime, I've found meals like this really funny especially in public (work)
A page of digital sketches of Caine Tavadon from Shepherds of Haven. He is a gangling, energetic preteen boy with brown skin and a riot of copper curls. He has a softness to his face but looks like he needs to grow into his limbs. In the first drawing he jogs along, suspenders loose, sleeves rolled, with a thick binder tucked under his arm as he goes about his apprentice duties, loose papers spilling out of it. He has a Shepherds medallion on a cord around his neck. The second is a close up of Caine’s head and shoulders, smiling sunnily, wearing a bandana in place of a tie. The third has him sitting on the ground, holding is own feet, looking pensive; here he’s wearing a vest and striped, patched trousers. His curls are crammed under a tan cap, and his Shepherds medallion is now affixed to the hat band.
This is Caine. He loves you so much! #artbydoodlegraveyard #shepherdsofhaven

Alt text correction *I'm going to be the deadliest piece on the board. 😭 thought I had that all in my brain still...
Collage based around a cover of a comic called "Creepy." Men pose in various places, faces replaced with art of empty heads or crudely drawn faces. A comic panel, a skeleton looks into a mirror and sees itself. Panicking, it says, "a little makeup will fix this!" Another comic panel, a solar system. Someone's hand reaches out and rolls one of the planets in their fingers, as they say, "The very heavens conspire against me!" Behind one of the posed men, a figure leaps as if from his body, painted in crude brush strokes that leave the figure's chest almost bursting outward. A button says, "What's a place like this doing to a nice kid like me?" A spiraling outline of a man sits in front of a passage from the Velveteen Rabbit. The visible parts of the passage say, "...You become. ... time. That's why it doesn't ... often to people who break ... have sharp edges, or who ... carefully kept." Text at the bottom of the page says, "I'm going to become the most dangerous piece on the board."
The same collage as previous slide, but without the Velveteen Rabbit passage or it's frame. This one is more cohesive and feels more like it could be mistaken for a comic book cover at first glance.
Two takes on a Number 6 Pinterest collage
I know calling it the experiment number 6 flashback is imperfect bc he's still experiment number 6 but you understand me, I have to call it something. Not everyone is familiar with 6lob
but I frequently find myself in those chapters, just a fish for one specific thing, rather than to reread them
It's funny that I would forget things about them, because I do have it memorized that those are chapters 55-56
I really have to ponder if there are other AMVs that I'm able to do after just this season. I completely forgot that we get such an extensive experiment number 6 flashback in chapters 55-56. For some reason, I always expect that information to come a little bit later, although I can't imagine where
A scanned pen sketch of an original character. She is a young black woman with long locs, the front strands pulled back in a crown hairstyle. She is wearing fluffy stress and is holding a flower basket, smiling sweetly at the camera.
this isnt the one ive been working on mind you this is the amv I put together in the meantime as a break from the other one
needed the question so that the 6 fans who Get Him wouldn't be turned off by the thumbnail. it DOES make me read it as [Leo lab rats] "living in my basement!??"
