Ironically I started this series a couple weeks ago. I'm on the third book and they've all been really captivating!

Grab a copy! It's got my absolute-favourite-ever single word sentence that positively sent CHILLS down my spine and a tear down my cheek!
"Liar."
Creators, *this is worth the read*. But, Roaring Brook closing isn't the same as Dial closing. Yes, there were layoffs, but RB is reshuffling & a new imprint is in the works. But the squeeze is real. We've been seeing it and feeling it for years. vickyweberbooks.substack.com/p/what-nobod...
Definitely! Not sure what or when, but when you are introducing further books in a series (even when it is made up of fully self-contained stories like Dangerous Spirits is), it is a great way to get people into it.
We'll look for other opportunities to get stuff out there!
We're always trying to get better though, so sincerely thanks for pointing it out!
We've talked internally about the need to almost create our own BISAC-like coding system, given that the Furry community has so many unique sub-genres that don't really fit with the mainstream codes.
You're correct. Green Fairy is technically closer to either "Quiet Horror" or "Soft Gothic Horror".
Genre copywriting is especially difficult as you need to use terms that evoke recognition and feeling with a broad audience, based on classifications that are very much up to the reader to define.
You still have a couple days left to get an eBook copy of Green Fairy for FREE! If you've not yet experienced the cozy horror of the Dangerous Spirits series, this is a great way to get started.

This is the difference between lettering, and lettering with a designer's eye. A character is waking up after nearly drowning. The top balloon is okay. It gets the job done. But the bottom balloon really SELLS the watery lungs.

Lots of stuff going on and doing some spring cleaning. Never know what might turn up. š
Trying is painful because it quite often results in some level of "failure". The calculation is whether the pain of "failing" is as bad as you imagine it to be, and whether you can do things to lessen it.
Many a wonderful thing never becomes reality because of the fear of trying and failing.
Three books on a table. From left to right: "Green Fairy" by Kyell Gold, "The Dry Spell" by Ryan Loup-Glissant, and "Dude, Where's My Fox?" by Kyell Gold. I will read Where's My Fox first.
Not usually much of a reader (except for fanfic sometimes), but I ended up getting some books at #TFF2026 Dealer's Den from @furplanet.com and @sofawolf.com publishers!
Planning on dipping my toes in with the relatively shorter story on the right first. Will read the first chapter tonight! UwU

(Excerpt from Azure City) Port City was the largest city in the Union, but lately to Athos it had felt empty. This was, he was sure, related to being laid off two and a half months ago. When he had a job, he had a purpose for being out in the streets and he was part of the crowd on the sidewalk, rushing with intention. Now the crowds flowed around him when he left the apartment to get coffee or to go down to the corner market, and without purpose, it was harder to match their pace. Worried about being bumped and jostled as a short grey fox who walked with a cane, he shrank to the sides of the street, tail wrapped around himself so it wouldnāt get stepped on. The people in the crowd became a mass of shadows with substance, flitting past him and then gone. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Black-and-white illustration of Athos, an anthropomorphic gray fox, using a cane as he walks along a city sidewalk outside a coffee shop. Other anthropomorphic pedestrians pass by, while a trans pride flag flutters in the background. Art by Rukis. Story by Kyell Gold.
(Excerpt from Azure City) āI think, ah.ā Athosās fingertips pressed into the chair arms. āI think I can tell you how it disappeared.ā Preston straightened up, and his eyes brightened. āCan you now?ā Athos nodded. āItās still there in the drawer. I thinkā¦I think itās from my friend, not the one who found the book, but the one who sent it to him. When you read the book, you seem to disappear from the world. I think when she sent you the letter, she hadnāt gotten all the way through it, but by the time you went to look for it again, she had. And when that happens, you justā¦forgot about her. You canāt see things sheās written.ā ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Black-and-white illustration of Athos, an anthropomorphic gray fox, standing before a desk while an anthropomorphic raccoon sits behind it. Tall bookshelves fill the background. Athos has a hand on a book, sliding it across the desk. Art by Rukis. Story by Kyell Gold.

(Excerpt from Azure City) Trembling, he sat up, his tail curled tightly around his body. The book lay on the bed, looking innocuous and harmless, nothing more than leather and paper. He stared at it, the waves of fear still echoing around his mind and in the tightness of his stomach. āYou canāt make me read any more,ā he told it spitefully. You have chosen the path, one whisper said clearly into his head. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Black and white art of the anthropomorphic grey fox, Athos, as he sits on the edge of his bed gripping an open book. Meg, his otter partner, has her hand on his shoulder and is wearing a worried expression. Art by Rukis. Story by Kyell Gold.
(Excerpt from Azure City) āFEW REACH THIS POINT IN THE JOURNEY. FROM HERE, IT WILL BE EASIER,ā the First said, every word striking a chord in Athosās chest. āYOUR STRUGGLE WITH CHAOS IS NEARLY OVER.ā ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Black-and-white illustration of Athos, an anthropomorphic grey fox, and Allen, an anthropomorphic hyena, looking at a stylized anthropomorphic figure reaching toward them. The figure is framed by precise, geometric patterns that feel ordered and symmetrical. Art by Rukis. Story by Kyell Gold.
Letās kick off the weekend with more Azure City art! The new Dangerous Spirits novel arrives next week at @furryfiesta.org. Enjoy this sneak peek (minimal spoilers).

A look under the hood of the writing craft, specifically When Things Go Wrong. This is with my current work in progress, which Iād been having some uncertain thoughts on but, true to habit, had been trying to forge ahead with nonethelessā¦

I read the first book in this series a LONG time ago and remember liking it a lot, despite being not at all in the target demographic. (Well apart from Furry, but I don't think that was intentional.)
