There is a real issue in Scotland with access to surgical abortion, and access to abortion after 20 weeks. This creates a problem with training future practitioners.

Most abortions in Scotland since lockdown take place at home.

Mostly service provision is good!

But:

Majority of abortions in Scotland take place before 9 weeks: over 90% before 11 weeks. Nearly all provided by the NHS & vast majority medical abortion.

The vote in the 2nd June 2025 debate in Wedtminster Hall to #DecriminaliseAbortionNow will be non-binding, and #AbortionIsHealthcare and devolved to Holyrood, but it will show the strength of feeling on this issue.

Petition: Decriminalise Abortion I am calling on the UK government to remove abortion from criminal law so that no pregnant person can be criminalised for procuring their own abortion.

Parliament is going to debate the petition – “Decriminalise Abortion”.
