My erosion filter is out! Video, blog post, and shader source.

It emulates erosion without simulation, so it's fast, GPU friendly, and trivial to generate in chunks.

As promised, here's a writeup of how this system works :)

There's a playable demo and download for the p8 cart on that page. It's CC0, do whatever you want with it ❤️

25 rectangular pictures of close ups of animals with different patterns that would make good prints. We’ve got purple and green stripes on a chiton, there’s blue rings on a yellow octopus, there’s navy blue and sky blue triangular tartan on a velvet worm, mottled black spots overlaid on a rainbow gradient on a lizard, blue and green eye spots on a turtle shell, labyrinthine ridges on brain coral, red and white candy stripes on an amphipod, Rorschach test blots on a crab, and teal and coral colored geometric shapes on a beetle.

I made this a while ago. There are some vertebrates in here but the inverts steal the show. I especially love the triangular plaid on the velvet worm.

Update on Bing: The block seems to have been removed! Sites are slowly starting to re-index. Special thanks to @ashleybelanger.bsky.social for this really helpful article and visibility.

We now have a direct contact at Microsoft we're communicating with to see how this can be prevented again.

Do you think you'll make another updated collage with all of the Bowsers side-by-side and labelled? I really liked how educational that was!

[ 1/31 ] 🧵

Time for yet another megathread of my favourite satellite pics.

This time I have 123 images processed by me in 2025 *.

Various dates, random places.

Most of them were taken by Sentinel-2, some by S-3 and one or two by Landsat.

*There's one more pic that isn't mine, but it's so good 😊

Camera rewrite proceeding apace: it casts two spheres - one the size of the camera, the other slightly bigger, it uses the latter as a soft target, with the former as a hard limit on how far away you can go. Satisfying - I had been far too tolerant of penetration until now. #OeufGame #GodotEngine

A YouTube thumbnail of 3 LEDs, red green and blue. Bright light glints off of them.

I'm amused by thinking about which of the LEDs on my screen are lit up by this image of LEDs.

Hi! I wonder, do you consciously think about how brightness affects color perception like the Bezold–Brücke shift?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bezold%...

Ever since I learned about it I can't stop seeing it, like in bright colored traffic lights at night time, or imitated in images of fire.

Different people get different things out of it. It is all the things you say. It's also an extremely introverted experience about being lost and confused and frustrated in a hostile alien wilderness, and overcoming obstacles through persistence and realizations, with a spooky foreboding soundtrack.

My visual qualia has a color field, where colors are points in a space with *at least* 3 axes. This is the main thing I mean when I think of vision. But there are layers on top of that, like depth perception and most importantly pattern recognition! How do they all feel like a unified experience?!

Made a little VR locomotion tunnel vision shader. This is a pretty standard trick to mitigate motion sickness for players that want to use smooth locomotion. It works by showing a stationary environment in the peripheral vision during smooth locomotion.

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Are you able to tiptoe like this with a Switch 2 JoyCon?

Well, you can't without a 28.09 mm physical extension to your stick.

@jonaskyratzes.bsky.social Hi! Is the soundtrack to Phenomenon 32 available anywhere? I don't have a windows computer anymore but I'm getting nostalgic for it. :)

I've spent *years* researching 3D Platformer Cameras in hopes of making Slime 64's camera "not terrible."

In this thread, the White Cylinder is the Camera Target (slightly above the player!), and the Orange Cones represent the "vertical dead zone" where the camera won't follow player movement.

BeepBox BeepBox is an online tool for sketching and sharing instrumental music.

beepbox.co isn't listed on @itch.io as a tool so i started the process of listing it except (!!!) you have to include three example games and i don't know who uses beepbox because it isn't searchable on itch!!!

anyone use beepbox & got a project on itch that i could include?

More:
Run Lola Run
Star Wars, Jurassic Park
The Matrix
Fantasia
Plenty of "silent" films, e.g. Steamboat Bill, Jr.
All "musicals" obviously, e.g. The Lion King

Requiem for a Dream qualifies. And it's a very good example, if feeling terrible is something you're interested in experiencing.

Exotic Animal Photo Reference Repository

GenAI has polluted image search results, especially for animal pics. It’s now basically impossible to find accurate art references.

Enter this: a repository of open-access, AI-free images of wild & exotic taxa. Artists creating *without AI* have blanket permission for derivative/transformative use.

The contract is that I will willingly suspend my disbelief and accept the storyteller's contrivance. But in return I expect them to earn or minimize their contrivances. I expect major coincidences to occur at the beginning and start the ball rolling, not provide solutions at the end.

Stated another way: Find two neighboring cells separated by a wall but indirectly connected. Carve a path between them, resulting in a loop. Then break the loop elsewhere, leaving a fork.
