contributing to orientalism contributes to the mindset that makes atrocities like this possible.
years and years of westerners imposing their view of west asia becomes this.
it is imperative you view SWANA/MENA people as human beings.
it is imperative that you reject any form of orientalism.
I really try and fundamentally don't judge people for still using "Middle Eastern" or "MENA" instead of the more progressive "West Asian" and "SWANA" but man.....knowing *everything* we know now and our need to actively disassociate from the Orientalist framework I truly think more people should.
This illustration is titled "This World Bipolar Day, we're thinking of anyone who..." and shows a person in the center with various challenges depicted around: problems with sleep, no energy to face the day, side effects from medication, stigma at work, struggling to find words, and difficulty concentrating.
Bipolar is one of the most common mental health diagnoses but still remains hugely misunderstood.
For #WorldBipolarDay, we want that to change.

Beneath the logo reads: "Eating Disorder Awareness Week An eating disorder (or ED) can be any of a range of mental health conditions where there is a persistent disturbance of eating behaviour and impairment in psychological and physical functioning. Disordered eating behaviour can include limiting the amount of food eaten, eating large amounts of food at once, getting rid of food eaten through unhealthy means, limiting types of food eaten, or a combination of these behaviours."

Beneath the logo reads: "Eating Disorder Awareness Week Anyone can develop an eating disorder. It doesn't matter your age, gender, social class, or ethnicity, or where you live. It can be difficult to spot an eating disorder if there are stereotypes about who is likely to have one. Eating disorders are complex - there is not single reason why someone might develop one. A range of physiological, environmental, sociocultural, and genetic factors *can*, however, make them more likely to develop."

Promo graphic for the spoon platoon love yourself valentines week. Graphic shows the disability Pride colors in the corners, with translucent spoons and a blue purple gradient background. The spoon platoon logo is in the middle with the words "Spoon Platoon: Love Yourself", and some smaller white text that says love yourself is in the bottom right.
It's important to remember that self-care doesn't need to be aesthetic or impressive. Take a warm shower/bath, put on comfy clothes, listen to music you like, or just stop and do nothing for 5 minutes. These are all ways to show yourself love.
"I show love to myself by talking to myself kindly. I try not to speak negatively about myself, and when I do, I try to give myself enough grace to correct those thoughts."
"I usually do a deep clean as my form of self love. I find when my space becomes cluttered or dirty I tend to get more anxious and worked up and itβs always this huge relief once everything is out of the way."
"I use an app to help remind me to, and reward me for, doing tasks I sometimes struggle with allocating enough spoons to do like shower, shave, do my hair, etc"
"I often try to remind myself that a job done imperfectly is better than not getting done at all. Might seem silly cause its the same motions but when my brain won't let me brush my teeth with toothpaste I'll just wet my toothbrush and wet scrub it so it's something."
"I think the best I can do is give myself permission to be "useless" and "unproductive" for the day. I'm not obligated to Do Anything, I can sleep or social or whatever"
"I take care of myself by organising stuff. I love a good spreadsheet. They help me plan out future tasks, and make future-meβs life a bit easier."
"One way that I combat burnout and practice self-care as a content creator is that I always have an "Offline Just For Me Game" that I DO NOT stream. Its okay to play games offline just for ourselves. I think we often forget that we're allowed to have games that are just for us."
"Watching my favorite comfort show when Iβm overstimulated, usually with a hot cup of tea and buried under a pile of soft blankets helps regulate me."

It's Valentine's Day!. This past week, rather than focusing on love for others, we've been trying to focus on Loving Ourselves and prioritising self-care. At the start of the week, we asked our community how THEY Love Themselves, and here's what some of them said π§΅:

Rest isn't optional, it's part of managing your access needs and conserving your energy over time. Loving yourself can mean pacing activities and taking breaks before symptoms escalate. Rest supports self-maintenance, participation and sustainability over time.
