So this may come as a surprise to some folks on here, but there are people still living like this today because they can't afford to get reinfected with Covid & the pandemic is *not* over

Possibly. It's a very open relationship.

Therapist: "It can be true that you’re feeling overwhelmed and also true that you care deeply about doing right by people. Those can exist at the same time without meaning you’re failing."

Me: "But what if I'm failing tho"

Definitely. But even so, it's not the why that's important, it's the damage done.

Abuse. And under 18. And permanent organ damage. Those are really the only things that matter here.

Thanks! I made a quote skeet about it as well. Taxpayer funded research is usually mandated to be available as open access!

I am again asking people to pay attention to what has happened to our National Science Foundation and by extension thousands of researchers across the country.

The devastation is ongoing and worthy of continued outcry to officials and journalists. 🧪

It's not just them, though that certainly amplifies the problem.

There are several nanoparticles in development to try to improve kidney healing, but I don't know of any specific treatment on the market yet to try to repair the kidney after rhabdo/AKI. We're working on it, though. <3

I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm not an MD, so not medical advice, but research says: monitor BP, avoid high sodium and stress, hydrate. Certain conditions will make it worse rapidly: stress, pregnancy, diabetes, high blood pressure.

It's publicly available through PubMed! pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC... #Kidney #Rhabdo #MedSky

You know, as a parent, I made sure my child knows they do not have to comply with torture.

My child would have walked away and gotten me because they know this is abuse.

Teach your children to disobey like their lives depend on it.

This is America, their life does depend on it.

I am so sorry that this happened to you. I wish the adults in your life had helped protect you and your classmates. These adults would do best by these kids by making sure it can never, ever happen again.

The opposite. Long term, things move towards chronic kidney disease, hypertension, and other kidney and cardiovascular disease.

I am so sorry. Yes. What just happened to these children is goddamn horrible.

As a scientist, I can't look away. All my results of the last couple years have told the story of what happens next. I want to help. I want to follow their cases and work harder to find tx. As a human, I feel sick.

This is, plain and simple, child abuse. They deserve criminal and civil suits.

So when these CHILDREN are saying they get up the next morning and CANNOT PERFORM BASIC LIFE FUNCTIONS and then were FORCED TO DO MORE PUSHUPS...

THESE ARE CRIMINAL ACTIONS AND YOU HAVE PERMANENTLY FUCKED UP THEIR HEALTH, YOU DESERVE JAIL TIME AND BANKRUPTCY

YEP. So here's the thing.

"My arms hurt too much to get above my head!" Might be DOMS, but could definitely be rhabdo.
"I am utterly unable to dress myself but I could yesterday." Rhabdo.
"My pee is brown." Definitely rhabdo, GO TO HOSPITAL.

My paper about SHReDD and patient futures can be found here. Risks for all the things cardiovascular and kidney disease shoots up within 3 YEARS of injury. By the time these kids are ready to start families?

I HOPE THEY SUE SO HARD. #Kidney

Nearly 80 students forced into 400+ push-ups at school, many diagnosed with permanent kidney damage, lawsuit says A dozen families in Texas filed a lawsuit against a charter school after nearly 20 students suffered potentially life-threatening injuries in February.

Since everyone who knows my #science is sending me this article: YEP, THEM KIDS GOT RHABDOMYOLYSIS-INDUCED ACUTE KIDNEY INJURY! And their risks for Stroke, Hypertention, Reproductive Risk, Demetia, and Death (SHReDD) just skyrocketed. GOOD JOB, ASSHOLE COACHES.
