ugly as he is, Izzy looks like a 90s cartoon here, which is chilling me out. Lumo looks like an M&M fucked a Minion.

the new dune is nice because you can sit in a theater for a few hours and think about how great Dune is? but there’s nothing in the new movies that you need to experience as a Dune fan. like you said, we have the book

it took me twenty years and a few tries to get into it, but a year or so later i’m already ready to read the whole trilogy again. it is so great, the language and the art as well

A cover by Mignola depicting the events of UXM #160 "Chutes and Ladders" in which the X-Men are transported to a magical dungeon or something where Illyana Rasputin (!) was imprisoned. Along the way, Kitty Pryde was separated from her skeleton while trapped in a crystal. On the cover designed by Mignola, he has chosen to highlight the skeleton of Kitty Pryde trapped in a crystal, while in the foreground Wolverine fights a demon named S'ym while skulls and bones are scattered on the floor. the whole thing is Hellboy as shit

A cover for UXM #163, as reprinted in X-Men Classic 67, by Mignola, depicting Wolverine hunched over a dead Brood alien, while the Brood Queen stands behind him. To be honest with you, this cover isn't as explicitly Hellboy as the others, but it is a beautiful Mignola design, and I actually own this thing from childhood, and I still think it's fantastic.

....The most Hellboy thing SO FAR, since the first installment of Seed of Destruction would not be released until 1994.

Mignola did a number of these covers for X-Men Classic in the early '90s, and I even own one, which i did not realize was a Mignola til now. Some of these are very Hellboy-ish.

a page from X-Men 161 showing Baron Strucker's prosthetic metal fist called the "Satan Claw."

The reprint cover for the same story, "The Ties That Bind," in "X-Men Classic" from 1991 showing Magneto and Xavier standing in from of a giant silhouette of an extremely Hellboy-esque villain with a monocle and scarred bald head holding up a giant metal fist that is exuding an eldritch lightning. The villain is wearing the Hydra deaths-head-with-octopus-tendrils insignia on his chest, and behind him is a giant lime green swastika. The entire thing is Hellboy to a T. The first installment of Seed of Destruction would be released in 1994.

so last week i read Uncanny X-Men #161 (1982) in which Baron Strucker has a giant metal fist which he calls his "Satan Claw," and my Mignola-sense went off a little bit, but I kind of shrugged it off, until I found this cover he did for a reprint years later, which is the most Hellboy thing possible

i did not realize the directors cut omitted that, and now i’m wondering how much more i would love the movie if id seen it that way first. i still loved it, but that tacked-on opening was kind of weird, now that you mention it. i agree though that the tone and the world still make it great

i think the closest analogue would actually be when trump lost the sense of victory was insane. the reaction to hearing that OBL was killed was definitely more muted especially considering the ten years between 2001 and 2011. we saw his spectre used to justify the worst possible urges and war crimes

i asked the “ai” “draw a lot of money please. i needs it”

the response is two classic money bags, one large and one small, and a stack of bills. it is perfect.

this is exactly the way my friend put it when he first recommended it to me and i love that people see it for exactly what it is.

quick plug for Shadowzone, its such an amazing setup and once it hits act 2 it becomes a truly terrible Alien rip-off, but the first act is really special

+1 to that…kinda feels like transitioning is a very Eagle Scout thing to do though. a lot of our fellow Eagles could stand to be kicked out of the nest, so to speak. fly, little birds!

this is exactly what would have been great to hear from any US Democratic leadership before the last election. chilling to see the UK headed into the exact same dilemma with Reform. i hope it works out better for them than it did for us

the worst thing is having this and telling your coworkers about it and them not giving you any accommodations or helping you in any way…like just send an email, man, i dont want to talk to you on the phone, we’ve talked about this…
