the new dune is nice because you can sit in a theater for a few hours and think about how great Dune is? but there’s nothing in the new movies that you need to experience as a Dune fan. like you said, we have the book

it took me twenty years and a few tries to get into it, but a year or so later i’m already ready to read the whole trilogy again. it is so great, the language and the art as well

Mignola did a number of these covers for X-Men Classic in the early '90s, and I even own one, which i did not realize was a Mignola til now. Some of these are very Hellboy-ish.

i did not realize the directors cut omitted that, and now i’m wondering how much more i would love the movie if id seen it that way first. i still loved it, but that tacked-on opening was kind of weird, now that you mention it. i agree though that the tone and the world still make it great

quick plug for Shadowzone, its such an amazing setup and once it hits act 2 it becomes a truly terrible Alien rip-off, but the first act is really special
