Why America is falling out of love with Israel Public opinion and elite sentiment has turned decisively against Netanyahu

"There should be no mystery why younger Americans are as pro-Palestinian today as their forebears were once pro-Israeli. Rabin staked his life on peace. What will posterity say of Netanyahu?" My column on why America is falling out of love with Israel. www.ft.com/content/353e...

Almost everything we argue about is a substitute for the thing we should be arguing about: the immense wealth & power of an oligarchic class, which captures governments, ruins lives and wrecks the living planet.
This class redirects our rage at scapegoats. To resist its lies is to resist its power.

So let me get this straight: the U.S. is sending a delegation overseas led by JD Vance to negotiate with Iran… and Iran might not show up?

Genius at work.

If your commander-in-chief is being excluded from military operations (coz he’s a lunatic) and blocked from accessing the nuclear codes (coz he’s a lunatic), you’re overdue for a new commander-in-chief.

Ms. Sherman, who went on to become deputy secretary of state in the Biden administration, would go into these negotiations with a large posse. She often had the C.I.A.’s top Iran expert in the room, or nearby. So was the energy secretary, Ernest Moniz, an expert in nuclear weapons design. Proposals floated by the Iranians would be sent back to the U.S. national laboratories, where weapons are designed and tested, for expert analysis of whether the agreements being discussed would keep Iran at least a year away from a bomb.

But Mr. Trump’s negotiating team travels light, with no entourage of experts and few briefings. Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, the president’s son-in-law and the special envoy, learned their negotiating skills in New York real estate and say a deal is a deal. They say they have immersed themselves in the details of the Iran program, and know it well.

I think David Sanger is one of the most dangerous sanewashers of Trump's instability & this column ignores extent to which Iran War is a global negotiation & Trump is increasingly less likely to be the decided. But Trump reads him these two ¶¶ say quite a bit.

Meta just paid the lowest effective federal tax rate in its history.

Thanks to tax breaks and loopholes, it avoided $13.7B in 2025 federal income taxes.

But now it's planning to lay off 10% of its global workforce (8,000 people) by May 20 — with more job cuts later this year.

Trickle down hoax.

For the record, for anyone who’s forgotten, it’s sheer madness for a president to contradict himself nearly every day. It’s profoundly wrong that we can’t trust the veracity of a single thing that he says.

The Shell Game Donors Use to Hide Their Identities Party leaders’ super PACs are increasingly routing contributions through nonprofits first, so donor names disappear before the money shows up in public filings.

New: $44 million in secret-donor money flowed into the super PACs aligned with congressional leaders in Q1 from their affiliated "dark money" groups.

Senate Dems' super PAC raised the highest amount, and highest share, of dark money during that period.

Iran war accelerates America’s breakup with the world President Donald Trump’s erratic moves aren’t helping.

The Iran war is damaging America's influence around the world and exacerbating tensions with countries already whipsawed by Trump's second term — an erosion of power that could be tough to reverse as U.S. adversaries such as China take advantage.

Similarly, Palantir calls for national military service. This is a common and unfortunate affliction of middle-aged and older men, akin to an interest in the Roman Empire or World War II. Its simply not something you see many men in their 20s promote for obvious I-would-prefer-not-to-die reasons. Charitably, it reflects a sense of a desire for creating shared meaning among the young that the elderly perceive is lacking, or to coerce the elite into sharing the cost of military conflict. Uncharitably, it is the old telling the young how to live and risk their lives.

We all have personal views, but the manifesto completely merges Palantir and Karp's vision. Why should a tech company have a manifesto that includes rearming Germany or Japan, or calls for national military service?
Turning opinions into political manifestos demands allegiance or opposition.

Kushner is serving in this role while on the payroll of the Saudi government.

Trump has always been narcissistic. This destructive urgency is new The President is checking off almost every item on the bucket list of the late-era autocrat

"The combination of endless flattery from courtiers, unbridled ego, lack of restraint from constitutional processes – and, quite often, the effects of an increasingly superannuated brain – drives many despots in this direction."

Power without accountability: The Palantir manifesto The problems with our tech philosopher kings

New, from me: Take the Palantir manifesto seriously, if not literally.
It reveals that our tech philosopher kings want public money, but without public accountability. This creates a dilemma for governments unaligned with its techno-fascist vision. 🧵
