This is terrible. How many more will die because public health efforts to control and prevent infectious diseases have been destroyed by this administration? This will be the first death of many. In the end will anyone take responsibility for the decisions that led up to this?

The latest disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo began on Jan. 21, with 419 cases recorded and 53 deaths.
The outbreak began in the village of Boloko after three children ate a bat and died within 48 hours, the Africa office of the World Health Organization said Monday.
It is generally transmitted when food is harvested, processed, prepared, packed, transported, or stored in manufacturing or production environments contaminated with L. monocytogenes. Environments can become contaminated by raw materials, water, soil, and incoming air.
It can survive and grow even under refrigeration. L. monocytogenes can thrive in unsanitary food production conditions, leading to contamination of the food. When people eat food contaminated with L. monocytogenes, they may develop a disease called listeriosis.
What is Listeria?
Listeria monocytogenes is a type of disease-causing bacteria that can be found in many places, including:
soil, water, sewage, rotting vegetation, and animals.
The more severe (invasive) form which can be life threatening: fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea may occur, and often persists for 1 to 3 days.

The Food and Drug Administration reports that there are now 12 confirmed deaths in the outbreak, which has sickened 38 people across 21 states. 37 of the patients required hospitalization.
