5 forces reshaping food systems in 2026: Aid redesign amid scarcity; defence budgets crowd out food/climate ; trade & compliance rules squeeze small producers; “stable” prices ≠ resilience; philanthropy can’t replace public investment. odi.org/en/insights/...
We wrote a whole paper on this in 2017, on the women who often leave the field sciences as their only route to get away from harassment

The Species Declared #Extinct in 2025 -- includes one of the few extinctions to date attributed to #climatechange @sejorg.bsky.social @coveringclimatenow.org therevelator.org/extinct-2025/
You can find bats and seahorses (all are CITES listed) amongst the “6 pcs insect resin specimen”. They could stop this but don’t want to.
I came here to say that - agree- it is straight forward and not turbo tax
[FOUNDER'S BRIEF - @rhettayersbutler.bsky.social]
Trained in marine biology, Gayatri Reksodihardjo-Lilley recorded the decline of once-vivid ecosystems. But over time, she realized that the reefs would not heal through data alone. “Managing those resources means managing people,” she once said.
@tlustym.bsky.social on the #tedxboston stage talking about the importance of data modernization in the wildlife trade to protect endangered species
#CITES #EndangeredSpecies
Folks a conservation hero passed today. Gayatri made a massive impact in Indonesia for her beloved Les Village and worked with the community to make lasting change throughout Indonesia. I was so looking forward to visiting with her again.
55 years ago today, the Oregon State Highway Division had a whale of a problem on its hands. How it solved it is the stuff of legends.
In other words: Happy Exploding Whale Day!
Franklin et al?
I think there was a misspelling in the award. Given all of the sexual harassment- I think it should have been the FIFA “grab a piece” award.
Even my political things fall through.
And the ones on horses with weapons on Friday.
If they did, then we would have a Speckled McSpanky
It costs ~$70 to produce a year’s supply of insulin.
Yet, the average annual cost of insulin went from $2,864 in 2012 to $5,705 in 2016 to $18,000 in 2025. A 25,714% markup. That isn’t inflation or supply chain—It’s corporate greed.
Now—California will sell insulin for $11. Make this nationwide!
There needs to be greater context of this- it is not new- I published these stats in 2002. 90% of species are wild- not individuals (e.g. the volume). Also- only 4 online retailers were surveyed. Amazing the stories/shares and no communication with the authors. @andrewlrhyne.bsky.social
#3- I text your AI and it asked me to log in. I do and then it goes quiet. I then say sign in as guest- and it does not understand the prompt it set to me. Who set this up? It is terrible!
#2- I call your 800 number and you say long call wait times and then hang up
@flydelta.bsky.social - what is going on? #1- I flew MCO to PMC last night and now you are asking me to check back in? Our flight he was delayed 4 H last night and I barely made it here. The trip you suggest I should check into is nonsensical- MCO to ATL to PNC then BOS To PMC?

We have trouble getting uptake at the government level because why would anyone want to improve the wildlife inspection process? @charliesaito22.bsky.social has written about this extensively.
We need better systems now.
This new system also helps address the Kumings Montreal Biodiverisity frameworks.
@andrewlrhyne.bsky.social and I write about a digitized system that can scam for species. This can help legal trade be better and stop #iwt www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
