Today is the first day of the (free! virtual!) Suicide Research Symposium. This conference is top notch. Come join us! #suicideprevention #SRS25 www.suicideresearchsymposium.com
Autistic people are not a disease. They never have been.
Autistic people have fundamentally shaped our world...an incredibly net positive community.
To condemn the existence of any autistic person is unacceptable.
Autism is an inherent part of our culture and history, and it always will be.
The entire permanent staff of the Division of Environmental Health Science and Practice was laid off. This division addresses issues such as asthma and air pollution, climate change and health, childhood lead poisoning, and cancer clusters.
Today I joined a lawsuit filed by the @aclu.org, the American Public Health Association, colleagues like @britshmit.bsky.social, and others to challenge the NIH's recent and abrupt cancellations of billions of dollars in research grants. (1/2)
Less than 1% of the US budget.
Liquidating federal health agencies is not about saving money.
Dismissing these workers will dismantle these agencies and cost American lives and our economy.

Glad to see Princeton's president stand up for universities even after the administration suspended their grants.
"we have to be willing to speak up, and we have to be willing to say no to funding if it's going to constrain our ability to pursue the truth.”

The CDC has literally been gutted today.
There’s no need for “April Fools” when reality is a nightmare for every human on this planet.
Thousand of scientists fired.
Entire departments erased.

It's autism acceptance month!
Autistic people have fundamentally improved my life both personally and professionally in countless ways. I'm so grateful to work with, have friends, and connect with family in this community!
This survey is a vital resource for researchers and the public to track the prevalence and impact of drug use and mental health problems in the US. It's a VITAL database.
And it's just going to be gone. Devastating.
"Not only is silence in the face of mounting authoritarianism morally objectionable, but, as the Columbia case suggests, it’s not working. Columbia’s leadership made repeated concessions to right-wing critics, only to be the first to come under attack."
I'm excited to announce that this spring/summer Statistics, Methods, and Research Training (SMaRT) Workshops are live!

<3 thank you!!
We offer reduced rates for trainees and folks from LMIC to make the workshop as accessible as possible.
In this one-day workshop, we teach about how to better assess and respond to suicide (and related behavior) risk in research studies with a focus on teens and online methods. This is a resource heavy class, where we share lots of materials to support this learning.
it's an odd time to share with so much going on that is much more pressing and important, AND: @shirleybwang.bsky.social and I will be teaching our workshop, Assessing Suicidal and
Non-suicidal Self-Injury again this March 27th!

Tell your representative now: Don't cut Medicaid.
I wrote a piece for @sciam.bsky.social about why White parents should be talking to their kids about race and racism. It was so great to work with @megha.bsky.social on this piece! Please share! www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-...

Any talk you hear from the current administration about making the US more competitive in science and technology is utter bullshit. What they are doing is sabotaging our country for years if not decades to come.
Troubling:
Congresspeople say they are NOT hearing from academics, or university administrators.
PLEASE SPEAK UP!
Oppose these budget cuts to research, health, student loans!

A screenshot of a text excerpt from a court proceeding, showing a conversation between Judge Reyes and Jason C. Lynch about an executive order that defines “sex” strictly as male or female. Judge Reyes challenges this definition, noting that there are roughly 30 different intersex variations and citing examples such as XXX chromosomes, androgen insensitivity, and five-alpha reductase deficiency. Judge Reyes emphasizes that not everyone fits neatly into an XX or XY pattern, concluding that the executive order’s premise—that there are only two sexes—is biologically incorrect.
Trump's lawyers are absolutely flailing in the courts right now
