The word “expat” conjures the nostalgic idea of Americans living in other countries because they want to experience the world. It’s time to use the same words for Americans that we use for people who are or will be fleeing their country for a better life: immigrant, refugee, exile.

Oof, hate those f*ckers with the heat of a thousand suns
Yes! And you can tell who these trolls are because their critiques seem to often be disconnected from reality and simply regurgitating certain talking points (e.g. “Kamala lost because she talked about trans people too much instead of the economy”)
Please name or add to a blocklist so we can continue enjoying Block Friday
Thanks. Duly subscribed and blocked. Ain’t got no time for that shit.
Oh yeah that’s why I freaked out about Trump back in 2015! His language reminded me of some of the most corrupt strongmen politicians I grew up seeing in India. Americans are just way too naive about this shit IMO.
Found one by @antifapuddinpop.bsky.social , thanks for curating!
Thanks! Needed the reassurance 😅
Why does this room feel tense, joyless and uncomfortable even to the people in it? Is it just me? Do Trump supporters experience joy in a way that I’m incapable of appreciating? Please tell me I’m not just projecting here.
Is someone maintaining a good anti-MAGA block list I can subscribe to? Ain’t got no patience for that shit.
It’s great to see folks organizing. But I’m also tired of the cycle where Ds save the country from the worst of the Rs, only to be told that we’re being ‘too dramatic’ and ‘Trump isn’t that bad.’ Maybe just let people experience what they voted for?
1) Agree that progress needs to be nurtured and sustained constantly 2) BUT the emphasis the author puts on biological reproduction as the primary means (rather than say, education) gives me the ick. At places it reads like a dog whistle for Great Replacement Theory in academic packaging
I only managed to read through it the first time when I skipped to page 100 and started there. The first few pages are incredibly slow and plodding. Nothing happens and I had no fucking clue why I should care.
That book sounds fascinating. And yes, the cult of Big Tech rings true, nowhere more so than in Silicon Valley. It takes a special kind of koolaid to convince some of the smartest and most ambitious peeps in the world to spend their time creating glorified ad platforms
Um, people have been predicting the downfall of those two for a while now. Apparently some people defy the laws of man and god that apply to the rest of us mere mortals 😭
Unfortunately the problem is that billionaires are something many people aspire to be 😕
I never got into Twitter/X. So I never understood why my Left/Lib friends stuck with it even after Elon. From the outside it looked like them being stuck in an addictive abusive cycle. I’m so glad to see them on BlueSky experiencing joy again. Glad y’all escaped the abuse!
After reading all of the analysis on the election, especially all the split votes, I’ve concluded that Americans love progressive policies, as long as they come from macho billionaires.
Apparently Buddhist monks centuries ago recognized that the 4:5 ratio is pleasing to the human eye. Notice the shape of this entryway in this monastery in Kyoto, and the very intentionally crafted view.

New to BlueSky. Never used that other platform either. Here until the inevitable enshittification kicks in.
It's mind-boggling, right? People keep saying these things as if they're regurgitating talking points from somewhere e.g. "dems lost because they were obsessed with trans people" like WTF? I think folks are so polarized and terminally online nowadays that they only see and believe caricatures.
I like this idea, but given Trump's extraordinary aptitude for being fortunate, people will very likely blame dems for not saving them. Yes, I'm as cynical as I sound right now.
