On top of all this, last I checked, CRAN didn't even store binary Linux packages (??!) which requires Posit Package Manager and some extra setup. Python's ecosystem (PyPI + uv) on the contrary works a lot smoother.

For internal codebases I agree - it's kind of nice to minimize API changes and run reverse dependency checks.

But for majority of other uses, the CRAN's rules (last I check doesn't even enforce linting/testing) seems like a solution to a problem needing proper package/R binary management (e.g. uv).

Last time I did it my letter was rejected because it was not "signed, dated and was not on an official letterhead". I uploaded it to an automated system from my own account... so I ended up using my company's official Word template and scribbled my signature lol. These places are in another timeline
