Exactly, whether he is your cat or not, you still need to ask permission to use his car to get to work.

If you’re gonna stretch, 8.4 is the rule. Vague standards disguised as rules! I think the argument against would be negative—IE the duties a lawyer has as an officer of the court are defined with specificity in Article 3, which would work against an interpretation producing a broad duty in 8.4.

Maybe 8.4(a) by assisting another to violate the Rules? Did the leaker breach a duty or violate a rule?

[NB: not implying 1st A concerns wouldn’t override a rule violation even if a rule was violated]

Digging into NY Rules and the only one that potentially looks at all applicable is 8.4(f): “A lawyer shall not knowingly assist a judge or judicial officer in conduct that is a violation of applicable rules of judicial conduct or other law.” Maybe one of the other catch-all misconduct rules in 8.4?

I’m sorry, but this is plainly unhinged. First, @adamliptak.bsky.social’s work is obviously not legal in nature. Second, worshipping the Court like it isn’t a government institution— a legitimate subject of news coverage— is beyond absurd. Third, the chilling effect on the 1A would be devastating.

I always spend time in my Professional Responsibility course impressing upon my students that licensed lawyers cannot simply take off their lawyer hat and put on a different hat.

The mental gymnastics they have to practice to combat cognitive dissonance and thereby stay on the right side of the thin blue line have proved to be excellent brainwashing tools.

Amazon's price predicting algorithm, "Nessie", was paused
during the holiday shopping season and Prime Day, when it feared customers or journalists might notice the price increases, then turned back on once attention died
down.

Or to put it another way, if you want to leak internal court docs, send them my way as I'm not a lawyer!

I'm not sure if knowing what a Markov chain is gives me a huge leg up in not anthropomorphising the Words Machines, but more people should try to understand that this stuff fundamentally is about generating sophisticated word clouds.

If you’ve read the thread posted by palantir on X and are shocked, please read this piece that @tlecaque.bsky.social and I wrote 9 months ago. Palantir has not been shy about its fascist agenda, and neither has Karp, who has been rambling about Western Supremacy in text & video form for a while now

Students are speeding through their online degrees in weeks, alarming educators Some online colleges allow students to take unlimited courses on their own time, leading to quick degrees and worries about devaluing credentials.

“The phenomenon — sometimes referred to as degree hacking, college speed runs or hyper-accelerated degrees — has spawned a cottage industry of influencers making videos about how quickly they earned their degrees and encouraging others to follow suit.”

Speedrunning college. What could go wrong.

i will keep reiterating it but the mRNA vaccine is one of the most important human inventions in history, next to the printing press and the solar panel, and the fact america is abandoning it is frankly anti-human in all ways possible

Pancreatic cancer usually kills within a year or two of diagnosis. In this trial, nearly all 8 responders are still alive six years later. The 5-year survival rate is usually only around 12%. We should be increasing federal funding for mRNA research, not cutting it.

Two hooded figures with lamps approach a moonlit, isolated cottage.
A woman answers the door.
We have come for the child, says the hooded figure
So soon? she asks
It is time, says the hooded figure.
The woman is distraught. We should never have got him a library card!
What is done cannot be undone, says the hooded figure
We couldn’t see the harm! We just wanted him to enjoy reading!
For most, it ends there, says the hooded figure, turning away and walking into the wilderness
Oh lord, What have I done! says the woman,
the child walks past her and out into the darkness with them.
Do not cry mother.
I am a writer now.

Look when I was in college I took a class on the philosophy of authoritarianism, so all this Palantir manifesto stuff is immediately recognizable to me as just Mein Kampf written in neon letters

I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.

A peer reviewed study shows a promising link between flu and shingles vaccines and a reduced risk of dementia. A heroin addict who cut off a raccoon’s penis for “further study” says these vaccines cause autism. For busy Americans, it can be hard to know who to trust.

Trump, IRS In Talks To Settle U.S. President's $10 Billion Lawsuit Trump's adult sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, and the Trump Organization are also plaintiffs.

Trump is reported close to a "deal" with himself under which US taxpayers would pay him $10 billion.

I served in multiple communist and authoritarian dictatorships, but I never witnessed corruption on this scale or this blatant.

the president of the united states is personally looting the treasury to the tune of literally billions of dollars and that he is not being immediately removed from office and tried for high crimes against this country is a devastating indictment of every part of our political system

It all makes sense when you understand that VC-backed tech companies want to insert themselves as a monopolistic, corporate tollbooth into EVERY human activity.

Transportation, communication, payments, farming, reading, listening to music, finding information, and now— with AI, *thinking*.

my biggest pet peeve around LLMs is when people (usually those invested in its success) call it “intelligent”. it definitionally, how it functions on a base level, is not intelligent. the way LLMs are built, it can never hit real intelligence. it’s just predictive
