The most corrupt White House in history. Here is an account of what people are paying, directly to a PAC called MAGA Inc, in order to meet the president, get pardons, change policy

As someone with a six-year-old and 2 one-year-olds, this is exactly what I’ve been seeing as well: “What to do when the President acts like five-year-old”
also, this is very Soviet, except that Stalin then arrested and executed the statisticians
So, basically, going forward, we're going to have:
☑️ fake economic numbers
☑️ fake census numbers
☑️ fake public health numbers
☑️ no education numbers at all
Friends — I'm pleased to be joining The Late Show w/ Stephen Colbert on Monday (8/4). I'm sure Stephen and I will have a lot to discuss, including my new book "Coming Up Short: A Memoir of My America."
Please tune in so the ratings don't come up short.
"There are moments in history when silence is not neutral. When pretending not to know is the most violent thing a nation can do. We are standing at such a moment now." - @mustafasantiagoali.bsky.social on the EPA climate denial rule.
There’s always too much to be done. We (academics) most always get through it though, right? If I can just remember that the amount of anxiety I feel is independent of how much needs to get done or even gets done, it’s easier to roll with it.
I have not been surprised by much but admit to being surprised by how blatantly open an authoritarian regime can be with its corruption without consequence or loss of supporters. “Trump Administration Live Updates: Maxwell Moved to Minimum-Security Prison After Justice Dept. Questioning on Epstein”

BREAKING: A federal court rejected the Trump administration’s attempt to re-detain our client Mahmoud Khalil and blocked the government from using bogus “foreign policy” grounds to deport him while they appeal.
This is a big win — Mahmoud will remain free.
Think about what the GOP is revealing with their attempt to suddenly change the Congressional maps: they know their agenda is so unpopular that they're going to lose unless something changes.
Of course, what they should be changing is their policies, not the maps.
“If the DOJ can investigate faculty governance bodies for citing a university's own strategic plan, then no campus is safe.
"Let's call this what it is: a gross misuse of federal power to chill speech, silence faculty, & undermine shared governance.”

This is figure 4, which shows the location of dams that were categorized as the critical overtopping probability (i.e., not very low) in more than half of the 21 30-year windows and the most recent time window (1993–2022).
Aging US dams face increasing overtopping risks due to changing hydrologic conditions. A study in Nature Communications evaluates 33 dams using updated frequency analysis and identifies six dams with the greatest probability, posing risks to downstream populations. go.nature.com/3IMV4xH 🧪
Faculty who wrote to defend their president and object to a DOJ investigation of their university...are now being investigated by the DOJ.
The most banal defense of free speech and academic freedom will trigger the full wrath of the US government now.

Columbia’s $200M deal with the Trump administration isn’t just about antisemitism — it expands federal oversight into admissions, hiring and more.

If you work with US Census data, this and #tidycensus from @kylewalker.bsky.social are the only way you should be doing it, imo. I stopped using DataFerrett and the Census data website around 2016/17 because #tidycensus is amazing!

The US Global Change Research Program's website, including all its sub-domains that host the National Climate Assessments and related reports, is now offline.
The 1990 Global Change Research Act (see below) mandates its research findings be available to all federal agencies & departments.
