New Research Highlights Co-Location as Key to Reducing Sampling Bias in eLTER Research Infrastructure The Integrated European Long-Term Ecosystem, critical zone and socio-ecological Research Infrastructure (eLTER RI) is pleased to announce the publication of a significant study on the potential of co-...

Ohnemus et al. demonstrate co-location, the strategic integration of multiple research infrastructures at the same in-situ facility, can significantly reduce sampling bias, enhancing the geographical and thematic representativeness of infrastructures. #eLTERcommunity

Together with @dlr-en.bsky.social we are trying to schedule EnMAP data captures to get hyperspectral imagery of these active fires.

Looks like the fires have created some massive pyrocumulonimbus clouds.

FYI we are operating one of the Blitzortung lightning detection stations here in Darwin helping to ensure good coverage of Northern Australia.

Very complex pattern driven by fuel availability and variable winds. Always fascinating.

Had a great week at the Living Planet Symposium 2025 (#lps25) in Vienna. It was great to meet people I hadn't meet for a long time or not in person at all and make new contacts. Thanks for organising @esa.int! Well done!

Science’s ‘Gollum effect’: PhDs bear brunt of territorial behaviour Survey respondents at all career stages report colleagues engaging in territorial and possessive behaviours — but early-career researchers are most often affected.

💍 The Gollum Effect: possessive behaviours, attempts to undermine others, and efforts to restrict access to data, resources or opportunities

Being connected to the internet allowed a firmware upgrade which improved the UI. So this allows them to ship an unfinished (at least on the software side) product.

The information is available in the app. But I don't want to have to grab my phone and open an app when I stand in front of the machine. After all I have to load and unload it manually, anyway. The app doesn't do that for me.

I completely agree. Adding to what you have said: We have a model with a display. So we can start all(?) programs incl rinse locally on the machine. But despite having a display with fancy symbols for wash cycle, dry cycle, WiFi connection etc. the machine does not display the remaining run time.

Large ephemeral lakes in Northern Australia flooded in 2023, retaining enough water to remain filled through the 2024-25 wet season. NASA #MODIS imagery shows the evolution between Nov 2022 & Nov 2024. A natural-color #Landsat 8 image shows the extent on Oct 30, 2024.

Here is an example of #DESIS "truecolor" and corresponding #SIF image. Now on to showing why it is working (many people thought it wouldn't work with DESIS) and what the #uncertainties are. The secret is in understanding how the sensor works.
