Hey look, I made the Wednesday #nytxw! Very proud of this one—my solo debut in the Times. Hope you enjoy solving it!

ok so they mixed up the images. but it's still NOT FUNNY that this police officer ordered a cold refreshing sparkling water and it was served to him with a napkin in it https://twitter.com/NYPDnews/status/1655797302567526402

I'm pretty excited about the fact that bluesky lets you use domains as usernames, and I blogged about why parkerhiggins.net/2023/05/bluesky-atproto-...

ugh I just found out my local library has a "power user" program that comes with a special card and bragging rights when you hit 2500 checkouts and now I will not know peace until I achieve this goal

personally it does not feel like much of a sacrifice to exchange car storage for actual quality-of-life improvements? maybe we can rig up some of the garbage containers to randomly blast alarm sounds in the middle of the night for the people who miss that

funny how that article refers to potentially "sacrificing" the parking spots and not the sacrifices we all make to subsidize the spots in the first place

nice that it's laid out so clearly: one more cost of dedicating all this public urban space to car storage is living with garbage and rats https://twitter.com/emmagf/status/1653725161013534720

it should go without saying but waffling erratically like this creates a pretty untenable environment for public utilities, even if twitter eventually lands in the "right" place twitter.com/XDevelopers/status/16534...

see, every time elon demonstrates complete ineptitude, we all tweet about it. which is free advertising for twitter! maybe there's something there

I learned about an especially cursed but useful-to-me microtransit option from the @milesintransit1 thread on riding between DC and Boston, so don't let anyone tell you those trips aren't educational

one aspect of twitter's "moat" is that it is the de facto source of official short announcements for a ton of different organizations. honestly impressive to ruin that https://twitter.com/2AvSagas/status/1651720037961551875

the blue check rollout is what happens when you use "called dumb by people on both sides!" as your heuristic for smart

it is genuinely funny to me that amidst easily a thousand bad product decisions in the last six months, twitter made one good one (unambiguous font for user names)

3 years ago 0 0 0 0

a lot of people are making fun of this, but what you have to realize is that these 28 new accounts are _each_ paying $8.

that's almost $225. _every_ month. twitter.com/travisbrown/status/16494...

glad I didn't actually bet on this, we'd be deep in the fine print right now twitter.com/GrahamStarr/status/16492...

you could imagine the same "authenticated" checkmark program applying to other public figures, news outlets, etc. just makes good business sense.

3 years ago 0 0 0 0

smart of twitter to continue to offer a checkmark to certain celebrities without payment. it should probably create a process for confirming their identities, and then a checkmark could mean that their identity is authenticated, not that they've paid

My favorite Python-for-beginners book is 25% off right now, if you're interested in learning. The text is free online, too, but the book is great! https://nostarch.com/automatestuff2

I think this removal happening as described is the most likely outcome but I'd put a little money on the under if I could https://twitter.com/verified/status/1648764138452299778
