you could imagine the same "authenticated" checkmark program applying to other public figures, news outlets, etc. just makes good business sense.

smart of twitter to continue to offer a checkmark to certain celebrities without payment. it should probably create a process for confirming their identities, and then a checkmark could mean that their identity is authenticated, not that they've paid
