I'd agree, I think it was dealing with people with dementia that scared him, even with the best care (I believe my dad was a great carer), it can be quite unpleasant. There's that side of it too. Obviously people with dementia deserve the best care, and to live the best life they can.

Purposefully trying to be dispassionate about this and not sharing my mum's experience, and I'm also happy to accept I may be wrong, and the against side will have valid reasons to be against it. Very difficult!

Maybe we could be asked during those annual reviews the GP does - discuss it while we're compus mentus? Have the right to opt out.

Also, if I'm ill and go at the time of my own choosing, there's also a better chance that my organs could be donated
It doesn't have to be Logan's Run, I think

I get it, as a fed up disabled person
Dad was a care home assistant and regularly says he'd rather die than be in ahome.
As a society we are scared about talking about death, but we do people do deadly stuff all day with things in place
Drive - ok
Drive pissed kill someone - go to jail

Thanks for your reply, despite my numerous typos.
I think I'm going to have to go for it

As someone who has witnessed an incredibly drawn out and horrific death of a loved one
Disabled myself, and while I can't speak for every disabled person, I don't feel this is relevant

I wish I'd known about the SharkRF Open Spot 4 before I got my pistar. Tiny, battery powered, portable. Had shrine tried one? It looks fantastic

I totally agree about Pieanessi. It was a great build up, looking back.
Honestly Leguinn is so, so good - I'm always a bit frustrated (as good as they are) that Earthsea is usually what we all find first, because of how strong everything else is.

I don't know enough about the etiquette around repeaters at the minute to want to use anything but my local repeater through D-STAR, but the reflectors through the ZUM radio have been interesting. What do you use D-STAR for? Connecting to individual callsigns?

I'm enjoying how I can change reflector and repeater through my radio with D-STAR - yaesu fusion seems a lot more effort, I'm having to do that through the node itself

It seems to me there are very few honest journalists publications
Looking at The Guardian headlines about benefit cuts under the current and previous government are especially depressing, as they go about apologising for it, defending 'tough choices' etc etc

Ah right, still pretty new to this, but yaesu and DSTAR radios here

1 year ago 0 0 2 0

I'm setting up a hotspot, looks like I can use Brandmeister, DMR, DSTAR, Yaesu fusion, so seemingly the world is my oyster?

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

Ok, ZUM radio hotspot working. Please suggest done fun talk groups, radio people

1 year ago 2 0 3 0

But potentially I can get into some yaesu fusion stuff with it without a repeater in range though, yes?

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

Is the ZUM radio elite 3.5 not a kind of reflector? It looks like it can connect to ysf/dstar

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

Either Yaesu FT5DR or ICOM ID-50, looking at the ZUM Radio as a hotspot

Last recommendation for you. Ancillary Justice/Raven Tower

I didn't think I'd need to limit myself to local stuff, also my understanding is Ruth the ZUM radio is be able to gatecrash all sorts, Brandmeister, ysf, DSTAR. Honestly, everything I've looked at so far had been a bit intuitive to be until I got to digital radio. So many different versions

Ooh nice. I'm still (slowly) reading Piranesi, not sure because I'm struggling - just because it deserves attention and is great. I'll add that to my list.
Have you read any Ursula Leguinn? She's my absolute favourite sci-fi/fantasy writer

Re: Echo chambers and not wanting to be around assholes, XKCD nailed it years ago:

1 year ago 31 12 1 0

The purposes of the phrase 'echo chamber' is definitely there to suggest there's something feeble about wanting to talk with/learn from like minded people.
Reminds me of when UK media stopped using the word refugee in favour of migrant.
Just rejecting this bs phrase and all its connotations

Like the idea walking home and joining a group, just need to find some suggestions for active talk groups to listen to. Any suggestions?
