“Pity the nation whose people are sheep, and whose shepherds mislead them. Pity the nation whose leaders are liars, whose sages are silenced, and whose bigots haunt the airwaves. Pity the nation that raises not its voice, except to...acclaim the bully as hero” Lawrence Ferlinghetti, 1958

Black and white abstract scratchboard drawing, vaguely resembling a landscape, digitally manipulated to add illegible handwritten text to create texture in the upper 3/4 of the canvas. The bottom is dark gray with black scribbling. Noise has been added to give it a grainy quality.

Close up of the torsos of two female nudes. The one behind (in purple) is lying on her back with one hand draped over her ribcage and the contours of stomach muscles and navel. The one in front (in pink and peachy tones) is lying on her side with her arm bent and one breast visible.

Agreed, with one caveat. I think what most critics fear is that it would be utter lawlessness and chaos. But people with good leadership skills exist everywhere, and other people naturally follow them. The State fears its own irrelevance.

The background is white glaze over a mostly blue background. On the left, a dark blue shape with red accents connects with a blue trail, suggesting skid marks behind a a vehicle. On the right, there is a red oval around a blue patch of underpainting with a larger form underneath it in red, yellow, and blue. Both are connected to the form on the left with broken lines. Composition was made by selective glazing.

"The problem that confronts us today, and which the nearest future is to solve, is how to be one's self and yet in oneness with others, to feel deeply with all human beings and still retain one's own characteristic qualities."

Loss aversion: The psychological pain of losing is twice as powerful as the satisfaction we feel from gaining. We often make decisions to avoid a potential loss rather than to achieve an equivalent gain.

Goldman insists a woman's freedom comes from herself:
"First, by asserting herself as a personality, and not as a sex commodity. Second, by refusing the right to anyone over her body; by refusing to bear children, unless she wants them;

The cover of the novel Interesting Times by Terry Pratchett. The title and author's name are on top in a yellow square. The cover features a wizard dressed in a red robe with golden stars, and a score of other creatures fighting.
In the light of recent events, it seems like a good choice for a re-read. 📚💙 #pratchett

THREAD. After a tough few months (involving my ex-publisher Unbound ceasing to pay their authors, then disintegrating) I am enormously relieved to reveal Joe McLaren's fantastic cover for my 3rd novel.
The book will be published on September 11th.
I believe it's the best thing I've ever written.
