After being offline all day I was utterly shocked to see the amount of flooding and destruction documented all across the Wellington area from this storm.

Seeing photos downtown areas like the hospital parking lot totally flooded was hard to wrap my head around!

Let me put it this way: If it was a decision between re-reading all 36 issues of X-Men Gold or re-reading any post-Krakoa series... I think Gold would win.

France passed a law requiring solar panels on every parking lot with more than 80 spaces.

Equals 10 nuclear reactors
Reduces heat island, shades cars

The US -- 800 million parking spaces. Most of them are uncovered asphalt sitting in direct sunlight.

Why aren't we doing this?

Obsessed with this record. It goes SO HARD. Think NIN fronted by an Argentine woman with a hint of R&B swagger open.spotify.com/album/7jUIaJ...

I don't recall any previous transformative technologies that had to be sold to the public so hard. No one in 1999 was going, "Guys. Cell phone? It's coming, whether we like it or not. I think it's important, FOR WOMEN ESPECIALLY, to learn about cell phone. So that we're not left behind!!"

Can Suppressing Emotions Cause Memory Loss? | Ochsner Health Some research has indicated that continually suppressing one’s emotions appears to be associated with an increased risk of dementia,

"A Finnish population-based study involving 1137 people…asked participants to describe how they usually respond to adverse events in life. Individuals who reportedly suppressed their emotions from others had approximately 5 times higher risk of developing dementia."

hi, let's start a suddenly shitty mood club

I want my enemies to have their identities respected so they know for sure the reason I am oppressing them is for being evil fucking morons.

Seriously, not only exposes someone's bigot ass, but also shows off they aren't clever enough to say anything truly sassy about the person they don't like

claude code does seem to provide *some* genuine leverage, but what it seems to be doing a lot of for *sure* is forcing people through the requirements gathering, strategic design, and architecture part of the job with the promise that if you do that with enough detail it'll just generate the code

oo, how were her vocals (and various harmony) live?

Turned off post interactions with this; it got too depressing.

Folks, try not to immigrate to a place that thinks you are fake and hard to trust.

Everything you liked about yourself is suddenly a liability that will haunt the rest of your life unless (ironically) you become fake and hard to trust.

Yeah, it makes it hard to trust anyone or be myself in any environment, ever.

(Maybe that is the standard NZ experience, I dunno.)

Oof, yes, I have experienced this many times over, including misinterpreting the statements of others and also walking right into it by innocently saying "that's not good" 😬

This is the feedback I've consistently had, no only on here but directly (including in performance reviews at jobs).

Basically, my level of happiness is fake to the point it is "passive aggressive."

🤷‍♀️

ha, stereotypical but true.

I mean, this is why - speaking broadly - NZ and I will truly never pass the vibe check with each other.

I ask because it is in my nature to be effusively grateful to people who are kind and helpful to me, and I kinda went off on my surgeon the other day about how appreciative I am of her and how comfortable she has made me feel, and now I think I might have totally weirded her out.

Yah, I've gotten the sense that people think it is fake or put-on, which is really sad for me because that's just my personality.

Once I am on side for something/someone, I am REALLY on that team.

NZers, I know (& embody) the stereotype that USians are oppressively loud and that it bothers people here.

But what about effusiveness?

When I experience a product, food, service, person, etc I'm impressed by, I am genuinely EFFUSIVE in my adoration & praise

Does that also bother / weird-you-out?

I *knew* you would get it 🤣

oooo, the way I would add something on the top of that to convert it to a rolling bookcase slash standing desk and then I could put all of the books I'd be covering on a stream ON the cart and then also stream FROM the cart

The AI lobby will spend on Dems in 2026 like their lives depend on it because their livelihood literally depends on it.

If the upcoming potential (🤞🏻) blue wave was majority anti-AI (as constituents broadly want them to be) and that sentiment finally got picked up in the media, the bubble would pop.

We are so far beyond even Teapot Dome levels of "government captured by private industry" in this country, and Democrats genuinely seem to believe their unpopularity is driven by being too nice to trans people, instead of being driven by their screamingly obvious hypocrisy about this.

"Chris Bishop has denied there is a coup happening" says the caption, while the photo is Chris Bishop in focus just over a blurred Luxon's shoulder looking... sort of like he's giving an amused side eye to a co-conspirator
