I agree with this. It doesn't help that if you do give something a negative review, a lot of developers and other critics will yell at you for being mean. A lot of critics prefer to be the cheer squad for the medium rather than actual critics.

This is some neat-sounding bullshit I wrote because Idols Of Ash is actually about being scared by a giant centipede so you press W too hard and fall down a hole

Really enjoyed this one - as both an interrogation of a previous Jank piece that went viral, and as an example of a form of back-and-forth conversational games criticism I miss.

Nice! I might drop down to HG if I do another rather than stepping up to MG, although I do like the larger size

Wait are you a Gunpla person? I had no idea

2 weeks ago 0 0 1 0

I have never built a Gunpla before and this was "Real Grade", which turns out to be one of the more complicated ones. This will teach me to not just buy the cool pink one without reading anything about it.

Also I have *checks sheet* literally 97 stickers to add to it

Many people don't realise you can recreate the experience of playing Dead Or Alive as a teenager in your parents' house simply by watching DJ mixes on YouTube.

My great friend @cjpt.bsky.social is available for work!

He's a phenomenal writer, narrative designer and creative lead for games (Warhammer, Hytale, Hackmud etc).

He has helped out on Pale Tides a bunch and I cannot recommend him enough. Add him up and share this please 🖤

What we talk about when we talk about running (in Marathon, while playing Marathon) Let's try to convince Brendy that Bungie's shooter isn't all about dopamine

We wanted to argue about Marathon, so we did it while playing Marathon

Living In Sim is our new column on "simulation", whatever that means Try simulating some enthusiasm

My new column is basically an excuse to roleplay a bus driver, a fighter pilot, an accountant, an IT technician, a car mechanic, a chef, a spaceship engineer, a farmer, a truck driver, a prime minister, a scaffolder, a book shop owner. But never EVER an estate agent.

I might be the only games journalist still working who played Screamer (1995) upon its release. I'm sure that knowledge will be relevant someday, but it wasn't for reviewing this reboot

If you get insanely mad about a post you saw online you are legally required to ask your neighbor if they need help carrying in the groceries. Sorry that’s the law.

Join the Suspicious Developments Discord Server! The official Discord for games by Suspicious Developments, including Gunpoint, Heat Signature and Tactical Breach Wizards. | 505 members

We have a Discord now! It's been lovely so far.

Today in the Heat Signature channel, someone figured out how to do a Hijack mission (take out all crew and deliver the empty ship) without breaking their Ghost Vow (never be seen or harm anyone) and we were all like what.

A picture of a hardback book on a washed blue background. The title is Next Level: Making Games That Make Themselves, by Mike Cook.

I've written a book! Next Level: Making Games That Make Themselves is the story of procedural generation - the tech behind games like Minecraft and Dwarf Fortress. It's about how it works, the games that use it, and the art and magic behind it.

Out May 7th, in bookshops: linktr.ee/next_level 🎲🔮

I have heard Esoteric Ebb described as Discworld Elysium, which is useful to give you an initial sketch. It's a tale of political intrigue amongst rival factions in a city about to boil over, as you, a hapless detective, find yourself in the middle of an investigation that could change everything. But, crucially, it's all fantasy themed and it's really funny. It's not as funny as Pratchett, mind you. But I'm monstrously protective of the man and his work, and am tempted to dock points from anything where people draw a comparison, out of spite. So maybe it is as funny as him; it's certainly much funnier than most games that try to be funny at all.
