i like harsh noise but i can see why many people prefer the sweet sounds of indie rock

anyway if you guys want music that is oriented primarily towards a subcultural social in physical space i really have to recommend DIY harsh noise it has what you’re seeking it will never be monoculture it will never need a bot army and it will never have that article written about it

from my perspective as nearly 40 and my own life i can’t help but notice the glaring lump of GAY RAVE alongside STREAMING HELLHOLE sitting in the decade in between. unsurprising that this might shift perspectives

this is also interesting because corporate indie rock infancy in the early 2010s was about the shedding of authenticity as a goal despite being very situated in hyper-local (white, misogynist) DIY scenes, but its resurgence now yearns for both a scene and authenticity

i will say that what interests me is how authenticity is being prized again! but i think what people are struggling with is that the question of “is she a real punk” is now less important than the question of “does this music authentically participate in a social milieu”

as it pertains to the band Geese none of this matters guys. it also doesn’t matter if you like or don’t like the band Geese. they are not a music-changing moment they are a band and industry was and remains bad and getting worse. not a ton of takeaways here

a cool thing about being basically 40 is that i can both be aware of and listen to a broad range contemporary music and not really care about any of the Geese fighting despite being 1 degree removed from them

loving the idea of a future where new stocks are designed for a digital grade … film is not a “retvrn” mindset, film is simply the best tool we have right now. it absolutely can and should be designed for our new tools

on the one hand it’s wild that kodak is like “our new motion picture stock is too magenta fix that in post” but you know what? fine everything is graded digitally if you can get me crazy saturated skin tones acknowledging and designing film for a digital workflow is brilliant
