And I should add @caitlinstockwell.bsky.social as a good OneCity choice -- she is a lawyer devoted to helping those in need, very committed to more housing choice throughout Vancouver and brings the added benefit of a super smart and reasonable husband.

Will fix -- I did indeed!
As the Bible says, "I am serious, and don't call me Shirley."
And of course @lucymaloney.bsky.social goes without saying
but should be said.
I got to chat with Kareem Allem today. I already knew he was super smart, but I also agreed with him 100% on housing stuff.
I had a good chat with @ionabonamis.bsky.social the other day. She is a smart transportation planner. @pwaldkirch.bsky.social, @russilwvong.bsky.social, and @fabulavancouver.bsky.social are home runs, but I think OneCity voters should consider Iona, too.
Great news that Frances Bula is running! She knows everything and I have found her to be thoughtful and balanced. vancouversun.com/opinion/colu...
Here's the documentary that 1.1 million Hungarians have watched over the past week, documenting the damage that Viktor Orban's regime has done to health, education and public transportation in Hungary

Very exciting, Peter's would be a *great* voice to have on council.
Noem is still up to dirty pool, pressure for her to be dumped should continue
I hope people are on identifying this guy.
Maybe we can call the $50K or whatever in the food bag combat pay for Homan?
A thread of MAGA protesting with guns and not getting murdered for it...

I just gave a bunch of money here: www.flipthevote.org. I am going to try to not doomscroll and yes do something to make $ to give to these good people. I will likely fail because very hard not to watch.
thomas.davidoff@sauder.ubc.ca, happy to discuss.
I recently had the chance to chat with @wazaroff.bsky.social who is running for mayor. He is smart, has great judgement, and spends his time providing affordable housing for those who need it. He would make an excellent mayor.
Hugely disappointed in @durbin.senate.gov, TimKaine (who should know better, having nice guyed his way into losing to Trump/Pence), Maggie Hassan, Sen King, @shaheen.senate.gov, and Jacky Rosen.
You watched the election and decided that caving to authoritarians in exchange for nothing was wise? Are you aware that the big brand problem for Dems (and a brand problem for Dems means disaster for America) is fecklessness? Not too late for you to undo this stupid betrayal of party and country.
Video has arrived of our annual UBC Sauder School of Business panel discussion, this year on the future of multifamily housing finance. Thanks to our panelists Graham Drexel, Suzana Goncalves, Nick Marks, and Neil Levecque, P. Eng. I certainly learned a lot. www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/dvk8f...
Wouldn't the city make bank by putting in red light / stop sign cams? Is there really a plurality of people stupid or narcissistic enough to think it's a bad idea? "Let's have a negative NPV policy that kills and maims people."
Solution to BC condo glut: let developers do short-term rental for a fee, somewhat lower than empty homes + spec tax, have to make good faith effort to market properties. Help fend off bank losses, preserve developer liquidity, ease hotel shortage. Hard to see who loses.
NEW: Rachel Maddow drops unseen bodycam footage of feds coordinating the arrest of Newark Mayor Baraka.
I REPEAT: the feds ordered his arrest even though he wasn’t breaking any laws.
Federal agent: “We are arresting the mayor right now per the Deputy Attorney General of the United States.”
I was back at 26 Federal Plaza today, where an ICE agent violently threw this bereft woman to the ground in front of her kids. She had not touched him. She did not pose any threat. She had to be taken to the hospital. (🎥: Elias Eliahu)
Two good things about @rebeccaleebligh.bsky.social from what I have seen:
1. Works hard and listens to reason.
2. Fundamentally a decent and kind person. I wouldn't be very worried about corruption stuff if she were mayor and I think she'd give a lot of attention to homelessness/addiction.
This is an interesting metric. I suspect there are similar abuses of speech "rights" with respect to COVID, herpes, and warts.
The evening of October 23rd, we will be hosting a panel discussion on the future of multifamily housing finance. I think a very important topic and a great opportunity to schmooze with real estate industry and policy professionals. www.sauder.ubc.ca/event/future.... I hope to see you there.
Good question. You could ask by how much does govt subsidize typical apartments and assume that's the social externality. So *maybe* 20% of value over lifetime. Say 4%/year annualized social cost of 20% = .8%. So maybe a range of .25% to 1.5%. At current rates tax paid >> occupancy, I suspect.
I don't have the years and years it would take to download the series from Fred, but would be interesting to know if he cherrypicked maturities.
Some locals wrote up advice to @gregorrobertson.bsky.social , here is my reply to their advice docs.google.com/document/d/1...
