David Eby’s Abandonment of Human Rights Betrays His Own Government | The Tyee Dropping DRIPA is a political calculation that will leave the province worse off.

I really don't get the Eby DRIPA plans, given that he still has 2.5 years of government left, the court rulings are a headache but resolvable, and when the world doesn't crumble, people will move on. Instead, he's given opponents a massive amount of ammunition.

This whole thing has been so baffling to me. Thankful we landed here for now, but it's just kicking the can down the (wildly perplexing) road.

I very much take issue with Mo Sihota on CBC Early Edition this morning characterizing calls to maintain DRIPA "extremist." The rights set out in UNDRIP (DRIPA) are minimum human rights standards. In no other context would it be acceptable to repeal human rights.

DRIPA’s Deadlock. ‘We Will Not Back Down’ | The Tyee First Nations vow to fight the BC NDP in a showdown that could topple the government.

First Nations leaders are condemning Premier David Eby’s plan to suspend parts of #DRIPA as a step backward that will increase uncertainty for all British Columbians and create political problems for the NDP.

Walking through Mt Pleasant and the whole sky lit up. Somehow it just felt like it was NOT lightning. A few mins later, heard the boom, and i commented "the 9 o'clock gun!" But immediately recognzied it was too loud for that.

It is amazing that despite the loss of the 🇨🇦 women’s team that Canadian politicians are going out of their way to congratulate the 🇺🇸 women’s team and tell them they did not deserve that treatment by the men’s hockey team, in the absence of American politicians saying it.

Worth noting that on a different website, multiple ABC Vancouver officials follow accounts that post constantly about how Sean Orr is a terrible human being and make all sorts of unproven claims, including one account that creates AI videos of Orr doing all sorts of illegal or evil acts

Wow, what a terrible headline. He didn’t “apologize 18 times,” he said 18 times that he’d already apologized (which, given his behaviour so far, is clearly a claim that should be verified before it’s reported).

Quite the family history GG Santiago has-- and how humbling to think that she brought the beloved Rainbow Brite into so many childhoods like mine that were so vastly different than her own.

Id like to think that one guy was like, "ya, obviously!" bc of COURSE the women should be there, before it even registered that comment was said pejoratively. But it doesnt matter, bc we see groupthink kick in: its FAR more socially acceptable for men to throw women under the bus than celebrate them

I've been calling to burn down the patriarchy since I was about 6 years old, I am definitely NOT someone to defend men's hockey. But I noticed one voice, one lone voice, that says "ABSOLUTELY" when Trump says "we'll have to invite the women," before the rest of the men burst into laughter.

Yes, thank you! I never understood my city friends' vocal disdain for the suburbs but then I realized they were commenting on a (mis?)perception more than specifics. And I also realized that growing up in West Richmond is a very different suburban experience than, say, certain suburbs of Edmonton.

The problem with standing up to tyranny is that, if you're successful people will say you overreacted.

and if you're not successful, there is zero comfort Inn saying "I told you so"

Before the game started, my hockey enthusiast partner said, "Just remember, whatever happens, we are the ones who get to live here. That's the real prize." We were shocked by his magnanimity (he hates to lose and hates Team USA even more) but no one could argue with that!

I regret viewing that game as a referendum on whether there is any justice in this world.
