Taylor as Cinderella posing in a prom-like stance with “Prince Jack” played by Jack Antonoff. Jack wears a red and gold crowd and looks frustrated. Taylor looks blankly into the distance with a Marie Antoinette-like hair do with heart shaped clips and a teal dress with bows. She carries a box with a giant key in it.

3 years ago today, Taylor Swift released the Bejeweled music video, which she described as her “twist on a Cinderella story.” In the video Taylor travels up an elevator to the “penthouse” where she competes as a Showgirl to earn a proposal, ultimately rejecting the offer but keeping the castle. 🌟💎🏰

Fragmentation of female bodies - (Intro to Film Theory) - Vocab, Definition, Explanations | Fiveable Fragmentation of female bodies refers to the portrayal and representation of women in a way that emphasizes disjointed parts rather than a cohesive whole. This concept often highlights how women's bod...

There’s some other essay I remember reading on fragmentation of the female form but I can’t remember 🥲 I’ll have to go back to my sources but in the meantime if you’re interested this is a decent summary of what I’m getting at library.fiveable.me/key-terms/in...

I would argue here that the gaze upon TS is not “the male gaze” but rather the gaze of the public/fans and the subsequent commodification of her body/life/identity as a product

Cutting down quotes because of character limits but Mulvey was a big part of my masters thesis and I’m fuckin obsessed with this paper so READ IT HERE www.amherst.edu/system/files...

“Traditionally, the woman displayed has functioned on two levels: as erotic object for the characters within the screen story, and as erotic object for the spectator … For instance, the device of the show-girl allows the two looks to be unified technically” (809)

“The beauty of the woman as object and the screen space coalesce; she is no longer the bearer of guilt but a perfect product, whose body, stylised and fragmented by close-ups, is the content of the film, and the direct recipient of the spectator's look.” (812)

Can’t stop thinking about this image in reference to Laura Mulvey’s essay “Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema”, written in 1975 (another 70s reference) and where she coins the phrase “the male gaze” for the first time. A few points jump out:

Anyone else see the parallels to all the chains she’s been wearing? She’s literally wearing (hand)cuffs made of crystals - a gilded cage 🫠

god the inner child letter that is Robin is HITTING today

"Buried down deep and out of your reach, The secret we all vowed to keep it, from you, in sweetness"

All of the protective mechanisms she developed, however misguided, however currently unhelpful, were ultimately to protect her younger self

I’m terrified as well 😔 I’d highly recommend checking out the fear of flying subreddit, my spouse and I have to fly for our jobs too and it’s the only thing that’s actually helped my (pretty severe lol) anxiety levels amongst all this

Id recommend checking out the fear of flying reddit - there are pilots on there who explain the situation so calmly and clearly. This screenshot is from a post earlier today. I have a very severe fear of flying whilst I also have to do it for my job, and it’s the only thing that’s helped.

i wonder what hetlors' explanation is for how Taylor specifies that she is "NOT a bad girl but does bad things to [her muse]" in So It Goes then in MAatHP "It's you and me, that's my whole world; they whisper in the hallway, "SHE'S a bad, bad girl" meaning the muse, not Taylor...
