The richest 10% of Americans own roughly 87% of stocks.
The richest 1% alone own roughly half of all stocks.
It's worth pointing out once again that the stock market is not the economy.
Healthcare is a right.
You shouldn’t have to earn it.
It shouldn’t be dependent on employment or economic status.
It shouldn’t be something you have to fight for.
It shouldn’t be something that leaves you in debt for life.
Universal healthcare saves lives.

Just a reminder that if you are a scientist wondering how you can communicate the value of federally-funded scientific research outside of your bubble, @sciencehomecoming.bsky.social is here to help you pitch and publish in your hometown newspaper

Scicomm matters now more than ever!
Returning from a trip to rural USA, realizing the messages so familiar to is are not getting out - both in terms of 1) disruptions to US science and 2) healthcare misinformation.

For all those still feeling the moon joy—Artemis II was brought to you by public schools and publicly funded science. Copy that! 👩🚀🚀💕

When air is unsafe, people with chronic illness, disability or immunocompromise are excluded first, from offices, meetings, events and everyday participation.
If the accessibility case isn’t enough, perhaps the economics will be.

Also, if you don't think there's an ableism problem on the left, you need to make friends with more disabled people.
Using the r-word is just bad. Democrats should have higher standards for themselves than Trump when it comes to using a slur that MANY disabled people find offensive. Looking at you, Graham Platner. New from me at @motherjones.com. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
Remember states vary with how easy it is to vote by mail, vote absentee, and/or early vote.
PSA: If you're organizing a conference in the US, please don't hold it on Election Day, especially if people have to travel from across the country to attend.
Election Day should be a national holiday. We should take all the steps we can to make it easier for people to vote.
Back to the Dark Ages Christina (Makenzie Morgan Gomez), a former Broadway dancer and marathoner becomes disabled by Long COVID. One morning she accidentally summons the ghost of Wilhelmina the Philanderer (Mary von Aue), a woman who died begging her medieval village to take the Black Death seriously. Strangely Optimistic Nina chugs pickle juice, sings encouraging songs from the floor, and leans on her loyal dog as she develops Long COVID during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Her witless telehealth doctor advises her to exercise more, get a hobby, consider her hormones, talk to someone — oh, and did he mention exercise more? Writer + Director: Nina Storey

The CDC has delayed the publication of a report showing that the Covid vaccine significantly reduced the likelihood of hospitalizations and emergency visits last winter.
This is a clear example of putting politics over science at the cost of lives.

So many people in the US are struggling to access healthcare due to the cost.
Recent polling showed "About one-third (36%) of adults say that in the past 12 months they have skipped or postponed getting health care they needed because of the cost."

I am shocked to see this language from the NSF.
“The U.S. National Science Foundation's Fiscal Year 2027 Budget Request reflects a strategic alignment of resources in a constrained fiscal environment while eliminating woke and weaponized grant programs that previously funded radical DEI projects.”
The AACR called on Congress to stand up in bipartisan opposition to the Administration's proposed cut of nearly $6 billion to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) budget. Americans overwhelmingly support increased federal investment in biomedical research: buff.ly/9L622rz #FundNIH

According to a new study, more patients who need transfusions are requesting blood from unvaccinated donors. Wow.
Wearing a mask is such a simple way to protect your health in crowded indoor spaces, especially high-risk places like hospitals. It still blows me away how many people would rather get sick over & over again & potentially get long-term health issues from COVID & more, rather than wear a simple mask.
