Day 12 of #BlackHistoryMonth comics. We Belong: an all-Black, all-LGBTQ+ sci-fi and fantasy comics anthology edited by comics writer Viktor T. Kerney and critic William O. Tyler. Stories of Black Queer people living in all spaces and times.
Good morning to people who understand tariffs & Kendrick’s performance only.
"It's not just the books under fire now that worry me. It is the books that will never be written. The books that will never be read. And all due to the fear of censorship. As always, young readers will be the real losers." ~ Judy Blume
Happy birthday Judy Blume

Wife: I hope Drake kept that wheelchair from Degrassi because Kendrick broke every bone in his body during that halftime show
This comic was drawn purposefully very quickly and is just silly. Title: Shareholder Panel one: two geese, one says to the other "Hey can I take the rest of the day off?" Panel two: second goose, with a slightly perturbed look on its face, says "Sure. Could you do me a favour though and make it look like you had to push me for it? The shareholders are here..." Panel three: three other geese standing in a tight group (the shareholders) observe the first two geese with great interest Panel four: zoom up on first goose's face "screw you I know my rights!" it yells in anger Panel five: the shareholders murmur to one another "murmur honk murmur murmur honk murmur" Panel six: second goose says "thanks" as the first goose walks away, saying "love you"

A screenshot of the profile page of an account called “nature” (@nature.bsky.social). It’s a new account with only 58 followers. The description is: “nature is life. All credit goes to Photographers.”
Reminder: Don’t follow art theft accounts that post other people’s work with no credits. They make the internet worse.
funniest highlights of the philly police scanner, a thread
I just don’t understand how so many of US are falling to see that when Beyoncé and Kendrick embedded the American flag in there performances, they were indeed speaking to the fact that WE are embedded in American culture. Because we ARE Americans. Despite all efforts to erase us.
one thing I’m seeing all over is people who admittedly don’t follow popular music feeling left out because they don’t know Kendrick’s music. believe it or not, if you ignore mainstream music for a decade you might not be familiar with the Super Bowl halftime performer
"..over the course of 15 minutes, Kendrick Lamar gave us what we needed. He was defiant, proud, vindictive, playful and celebratory. He was pro-Black and subversive, trolling and joyful, and through all the expectations and fighting and nastiness, he was ultimately victorious."
Instead of saying "I didn't understand the halftime show, therefore it is bad art" maybe try and understand why you didn't get it and think critically about the presentation, symbolism, etc. This is part of the beauty of art and creativity.
Image shows the cover of When Blood Meets Earth, which features a Black woman sitting in the branch of a red tree.
One thing we can do to challenge systemic barriers in the publishing industry is throw our support behind Black and brown people in publishing.
Here’s an author I want you to do that for. Go pre-order this incredible fantasy! When it launches next month, I’ll be hosting a buddyread!

Two observations of a portion of the galaxy NGC 628 are split diagonally, with Webb’s observations at top left and Hubble’s at bottom right. The galaxy’s core is roughly centered and the galaxy’s arms appear to rotate counterclockwise. The spiraling filamentary structure looks somewhat like a cross section of a nautilus shell. In Webb’s image, the spiny spiral arms are composed of many filaments in shades of orange, with prominent dark gray or black “bubbles,” and there is a blue haze near the core. In Hubble’s image, the spiral arms are a mix of bright blue star clusters, pink star forming areas and dark brown dust lanes, and the core is a pale yellow.
Two observations of the galaxy NGC 1300 are split diagonally, with Webb’s observations at top left and Hubble’s at bottom right. The galaxy’s core is centered, connected to a prominent diagonal bar structure. The galaxy’s two distinct spiral arms begin at the end of the bar and rotate counterclockwise. Together, the arm and bars form a backward S shape. In Webb’s image, the bar and spiral arms are composed of many filaments in shades of orange, and are anchored by its central region, which is circular and light yellow. In Hubble’s image, the spiral arms are a mix of bright blue star cluster and dark brown dust lanes, and the bar and core are a pale yellow.
Two observations of the galaxy NGC 1512 are split diagonally, with Webb’s observations at top left and Hubble’s at bottom right. The galaxy’s core is centered and circular, with two prominent dust lanes crossing the large diagonal bar structure appearing toward the top left and bottom right. The central bar is blue at top, looking like a gap until a closer examination shows it feeds a larger, oval shape that looks braided with many spiral arms. In Webb’s image, the spiral arms are composed of many filaments in shades of orange. In Hubble’s image the bar is a light pinkish-brown and the spiral arms are a mix of bright blue star clusters and dark brown dust lanes.
Two observations of the galaxy NGC 3351 are split diagonally, with Hubble’s observations at top left and Webb’s at bottom right. The galaxy’s core is centered and the galaxy’s arms rotate clockwise and form a distinct outer ring. In Hubble’s image, the galaxy’s roughly horizontal bar structure is a pale yellow and the spiral arms are a mix of bright blue star clusters and dark brown dust lanes that form half of the large circular ring. In Webb’s image, the spiral arms form the other half of the large ring, which is made of many filaments in shades of orange. They are anchored by its central region, a hazy blue bar, connected to the central core. The core has a small orange oval around a more circular light yellow oval, with a blue dot at its center.
these webb/hubble images are truly incredible. the fact that we can see the universe in different wavelengths of light and spot so many unseen details is mind-blowing 🌌
I believe!
