So given this is Season 4, and Season 1 was in 1813, it must be the Seditious Meetings Act 1817, which means they're *definitely* trailing Bridgerton Season 6: The Peterloo Massacre, where Eloise's forgotten radical tradesman boyfriend reappears only to die in her arms at the hands of the Yeomenry
Photo of a Poem on the Underground piece on the tube in London titled Epitaph on a Tyrant by W.H. Auden. Poem: "Pefection, of a kind, was what he was after. And the poetry he invented was easy to understand; He knew human folly like the back of his hand. And was greatly interested in armies and fleets; When he laughed, respectable senators burst with laughter; And when he cried the little children died in the streets." January 1939
Well played, London Underground.
A poster that reads: you can’t spell hatred without red hat accompanied by a drawing of a red hat
Everything is awful but the creativity behind some of these handmade posters gives me a glimmer of hope in humanity.
My course syllabi now contain a link to this document, "why Professor Holliday Doesn't Use Generative AI". Feel free to share/repurpose or just check out the links for your own reference. It won't stop some of them, but I want students to know why. docs.google.com/document/d/1...
This Author has the privilege of sharing the tale of Mrs Catherine Perceval with avid readers & riotous revellers alike. The Author hopes this will satiate the ton's boundless appetite for gossip. For now.

Whatever my uni declares, I am not going to engage with AI. I am not going to use AI or teach students to use it. I am going to continue to explain to students why it is harmful. Absolutely absurd to allow this anti-intellectual, environmentally devastating technology into the university at all.

This thread. The lack of acknowledgement of luck is a constant in the humanities. I have had a really successful career, made a living as a writer. And I am a pretty good researcher, I can present interesting ideas in a way people want to read them. Is that why I'm successful? 1/3

Poster for the podcast UPRISING: THE CIVIL WARS. A picture of Charles I is in the centre with battle scenes in the background. Along with the podcast title are the words ‘Listen wherever you get your podcasts’.
It’s my birthday! A really wonderful gift would be if you could listen, like and share my new podcast series, Uprising: The Civil Wars (and, if you have enjoyed it, give it 5 ⭐️)
In the words of Henrietta Maria, Merci.

A movie that takes place where you're from.
This is the most frustrating and exhausting thing about academia. When I mentioned it to a headhunter who was asking about things that could change, they said, “you are the first person to bring this up” — but two other women in the room backed me up.

NYT opinion: OPINION BINYAMIN APPELBAUM Mamdani Isn’t the Future of the Democrats. This Guy Is The picture is of PA Gov Josh Shapiro
You have to understand what pieces like this from the NYT are and are not.
They are not an honest assessment of the state of politics today.
They are a negotiation tactic—an effort by a calcified, right-leaning legacy institution to steer the discourse in a direction more palatable to elites.

Anthony Blinken was explicitly calling the actions of the RSF and SAF in Sudan a genocide all the way back in January.
Which people who’d actually been paying attention to the situation in Sudan before now (when it’s handy to use it Sudan as a rhetorical gotcha against Gaza protesters) would know.
