I feel like the backlash against educational tech and gamification calls into question how academia approaches games broadly. Whole programs popped up 10-15 years ago on “serious games” money with approaches that were broad, but not deep: games were talismans that can magically cure what ails ya

I cannot fucking wait
My motto this year is "MUST I ENDURE MORE!?!" And it feels like that hahah
I feel the same! Art making (whether game or otherwise) has always been my point of contact for community and it's already isolating to make things alone. I also think other folks' engagement with my work makes it so much richer. This would be a nightmare for me.
In the daylight hours at least!
i feel like sometimes the small beans don't understand that we have them to help calm us, not to drag us into their own neurosis
Exactly! We are all just games waiting to be chewed!

Have you seen her Sex book? Cause...
After nearly two years of unofficially (and then officially) coordinating a Games and Animation program, I'll say this:
Video-game industry people and tabletop industry people see eye to eye: game recognize game.
It's all the *adjacent* folks, many with the pursestrings, who only see the VG folks.
Gooood morning people of Bluesky ⛅
After a heartening push from folks in my discord, I am launching a crowdfund for Season 2 of Lyrical Ludology!
Season 1 launched in 2024, and I am very proud of it. Season 2 promises to be just as good 🤩

A pair of ivory with ebony inlay German dice from the late 17th Century. One appears as a male, the other female. They are nude and squat in a roughly cubic shape with black pips marking the different die faces.
Modern D6 are boring.
These 17th & 18th Century dice made Game Night with grandma far more exciting, were educational, and carried only a slight potential of being cursed, before Big Cube came in and ruined everything.
I have somehow never even heard of Bujold!
The real answer is probably Tombs of Atuan but I've read that already!
I'm travelling this weekend so it's must not be manga, but I have read the first one and plan to keep going!
Actually, I want a dungeon book. What's some good dungeon fiction?
Reading Sometimes Lofty Towers and The Traitor Baru Cormorant has really set my fantasy bar high. What else is living up these standards?

also me.
You can learn to like new things!
This is largely a rant about game spaces because people so often talk about their tastes like they aren't impacted by culture. Like they are some innate quality about themselves. It's much more likely the innate quality is attachment to something familiar and not some aesthetic element of the art.
And I wonder what kind of persons y'all could be if you tried to like or understand the art because you like the artist. Like imagine how your tastes might change, how much you might learn.
It's always really funny to me when everyone in a space claims to be committed to social justice but then spends all their media + entertainment time talking about and engaging in the gigantic figures in the space. Nobody majorly winning right now is gonna be that cool.
