I mean most climate models predictions just mean that it'll need to be done in more northern locations- Southern Siberia in say February will have the weather of say Germany nowadays in January...

I'm quoted here in a new politico piece discussing the recent tendency, preceding Trump but exemplified in his (& Russia's) interventions in the 2026 Hungarian election for great powers to increasingly meddle in elections through overt methods.

& every few months he does stuff that lead you to feel as if you are in a taxi with a crazy taxi driver who is driving 130km an hour & breaking every traffic rule while discovering that your seatbelt is broken... not healthy either
The irony- the section of the bible Trump will read to "repent" includes a blunt divine threat of complete destruction "if you turn away and forsake the decrees and commands I have given you". The picker of this section trying to send Trump a hint? /1

Why Iranian international messaging was so much better in this war despite being caught by surprise- big parts of it are run by US based Iranian guys iranwire.com/en/features/...
Welcome to life in academic publishing- it happens alas to everyone
Dumb excuse by JD Vance for US failure in Hungary. As my research on foreign election interference (like book "meddling in the ballot box") finds, countries don't intervene for candidates that they think are "lost causes". Vance wouldn't have anyway agreed to do this himself if he thought so.

This case for example from a VP openly intervening in a Lebanese in 2009 /2 www.nytimes.com/2009/05/23/w...
An annoying thing in one of my research topics (foreign election interference/partisan electoral interventions) is that no one remembers past & how it is quite precedented. The US frequently overtly intervened in this blatant manner in elections including a case with a VP in Axelrod's WH era /1
Yup. I predicted that consequence of the war (among others) in early March dovhlevin.substack.com/p/the-bystan...
It was a "hint" as obvious to locals to what Vance did in Hungary.
Trump is indeed meddling alot in elections- but according to my dataset of such interventions (PEIG) 2/3 of US interventions since end of Cold War to 2014 have been overt journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
I completely agree that US was helping in this case a much "nicer" side then the side Vance is helping in Hungary- but still it was a quite blatant U.S. interference in elections as well.
Biden threatens in a pre-election press conference in Beirut to cut off all US aid to Lebanon if wrong side wins- also pretty blatant and large IMO.

Issue is that w/out US market its not economical for Moderna etc. to work on it b/c cannot recoup invest in making them. Chinese vaccine makers are not yet in frontier on this tech so will take while till other options (maybe) available.

Your timing is indeed good- good luck with it!
There are indeed multiple cases of this kind- overt interference in elections by the U.S. pretty common according to my dataset (PEIG)- here for example is VP Biden before the 2009 Lebanese elections www.nytimes.com/2009/05/23/w...
A select key segment of the op-ed, and a discussion of an additional (spurious) argument the hawks make in this regard can be seen in my new substack post dovhlevin.substack.com/p/me-in-sout...
the resulting overall beneficial products. The existence of another major scientific power with very different preferences, such as China, can eventually help Americans to avoid losing out on useful products unfavored by the whims of the U.S. political system (RFK Jr. as HHS secretary etc.). /3
American post-WW2 dominance of science comes with a big downside (also) to Americans- namely that scientific progress directly relevant to their life can become hostage to domestic American politics, politics that are frequently hostile to useful scientific discoveries or to/2
My new op-ed in South China Morning Post discusses how the rise of China’s science & tech benefits the U.S. as well in counter to the hawks claims /1 www.scmp.com/opinion/chin...

Unanticipated effects of the Iran war in a (still?) globalized world- your local Hong Kong supermarket suddenly has some products pretty obviously meant originally for a Middle Eastern country that were clearly redirected instead at the last moment to Hong Kong.
