Here’s a special message from @dameevelynglennie.bsky.social, as there are now just TWO MONTHS left to take part in our project Ways of Listening.
Over the past few months, with so many submissions already sent in, Ways of Listening has grown into something rich, surprising, and deeply human.

So what does listening mean to YOU? We can’t wait to see -and hear - your creative responses to the question. citiesandmemory.com/listening/
What’s striking isn’t just the range of submissions, but the range of approaches to listening itself. The submissions form a kind of map — not of places, but of attention.
Again and again, artists return to a simple but powerful idea: listening is not passive. It is something we do.

Happy to be accepted in this project and currently working on my contribution…
🏆 We’ve won an award! I was honoured to be presented with the Grand Prix from the Académie Charles Cros in Paris last night for “parole enregistrée, documents et créations sonores”.
A special shout out and dedication to our community of 2,500 artists around the world, who all share a piece of this award with us. Merci a tous! ❤️🎧
These awards have been running since 1948 and the grands prix have been won by the likes of Eliane Radigue, Buddy Guy, Angelique Kidjo and, erm, Jimi Hendrix so we’re in good company.

Meet the infinity gong! @dameevelynglennie.bsky.social introduces us to this marvel, and what this means for listening in terms of how you approach an instrument, or a situation. Listening is about introducing yourself with care and attention, whether it’s to a gong, or to another person.
For our latest project Ways of Listening, we’re looking for your creative responses about what listening means to you - so what could the infinity gong tell you about the way that YOU approach listening? citiesandmemory.com/listening/

What can humble recycled plastic bottles teach us about listening? @dameevelynglennie.bsky.social walks us through the amazing home-made flair drum, and how it encourages us to listen to the household items that surround us every day for a “myriad of different sound colours”.

The Spring Project 2026 is well under way, with some excellent pieces already in, including from the Jewish Museum in Berlin, Aegean waves in Greece, crickets in Ghana and an emergency alarm in Oxford. Find them all on our sound map: citiesandmemory.com/spring-proje...
Calls to prayer are among my favourite recordings, each one with its own personality but all affecting in their own way, and a challenge to record and treat with the respect they demand and deserve.
New on the sound map! 🗺️🎧 A wonderful reimagined version of this recording I made at Marrakesh’s beautiful Koutoubia mosque, reworked by Jeff Dungfelder - hear all the newest additions here: citiesandmemory.com/spring-proje...

Kick your Monday off with this uplifting excerpt from our Century of Sounds project by Daniel Chudley-Le Corre.
Based on a recording of a sapeh (three-stringed lute) from Sarawak, Malaysia in the @pittriversmuseum.bsky.social sound collection, Daniel builds it into this fist-pumping guitar anthem.
The first full Cities and Memory live show of the year, captured in some terrific photos by Ian Hanham. Excellent to share a stage with @warringtonruncorn.com and thanks to @divineschism.bsky.social for hosting us.
