There is bipartisan agreement that there aren’t easy places to cut $1.2 billion to balance our budget, but as we debate the budget this week, we’re taking action to maximize every dollar for Coloradans.
Senators Katie Wallace and Chris Kolker’s bill to protect the dignity and privacy of minors by keeping court records of name changes private for petitioners under 18 passed the Senate.
Senator Judy Amabile’s bill to safeguard data collected by Automated License Plate Reader technology, like Flock cameras, passed Senate committee.
Senators Katie Wallace and Lisa Cutter’s bill to promote responsible recycling, reusing, and managing of electric vehicle batteries at the end of a vehicle’s life passed Senate committee.
Senate President James Coleman’s bill to create a Cradle-to-Career grant program to support education and workforce development initiatives passed Senate committee.
Senators Julie Gonzales and Mike Weissman’s bill to create legal remedies in state court for people whose constitutional rights were violated during immigration enforcement actions passed the Senate.
Senator Judy Amabile’s bill to modernize the existing, voter-approved Prop 123 affordable home ownership program to better meet families’ needs passed Senate Committee.
During the last week of February, Senate Democrats advanced legislation to expand access to affordable housing and career training, protect our privacy and constitutional rights, and protect our environment.

Supplementals help us shore up our budget after unforeseen expenses, and the biggest unforeseen expense was the Congressional Republicans’ H.R. 1 tax bill that gutted Colorado’s budget in favor of tax cuts to the ultra-wealthy.
Congressional Republicans’ H.R. 1 gave massive tax breaks to huge corporations. So, we’re stepping in to rebalance the scales in favor of working families.
