Hey peeps! Do you like Indian food? Who doesn't?!
Then come along and help support my daughter Carys Chacko with her fundraising efforts to get to London AND eat some yummy kai. A selection of breads, rice, and mains. Drinks can be purchased from the bar for extra 🙂

The positioning of preventing thousands of deaths as doing nothing is…. Quite something.

So fun fact - people on the left *are* working with young men. Like I got a whole ass partner who spends all his time doing that. People just sorta ignore that because it doesn't make for good headlines, and also people like saying we need to bring back the subjugation of women.

a group of crabs are standing on a wooden deck and they are chanting in unison " pay up " ALT: a group of crabs are standing on a wooden deck and they are chanting in unison " pay up "

The universe is having a laugh at my expense.

I’m on strike today from 10.30-2.30

I’m also sick.

Which means no sick pay either.

Rude.

Also, honestly UoA - right now you suck, bargain with good faith instead of whatever you have been doing.

I have funds now to travel to international conferences to support my research. I’ve not really had access to that before.

I saw an excellent conference advertised yesterday.

One I’d usually want to go to.

It’s in the US.

Not now. Nope.

Academic freedom there is dying. Quickly.

If the PM is taking political pointers from Marie Antoinette should we then be inspired by what the French people then went on to do?

I do love the support governments around the world are showing for Ukraine right now.

But I hate the relative silence re Palestine.

Where were they when Trump posted that horrific AI video this week?

Why can’t we have both and?

In an extraordinary display of public support, heads of state, heads of government, and foreign ministers from all over Europe and Canada are posting in support of Ukraine in response to the Oval Office meeting with Trump, Zelenskyy, and Vance.

CDC Staff Prohibited From Co-Authoring Papers With World Health Organization Personnel It’s just the latest “Orwellian” crackdown on government scientists.

NEW:
“CDC staff should not be co-authors on manuscripts/abstracts with WHO staff,” nor publish papers on work "funded by WHO."

From an interim guidance shared yesterday with the Influenza Division of CDC's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases.

Call out to non US based social science peeps! Are you reconsidering where your work can be published given recent developments in the US? Has this caused you to rethink which journals to submit to? Super curious to hear people’s thoughts.

We repealed it because, despite opposition, most people realised that “reasonable force” was a flimsy concept and allowing people to use force against another human like that was fundamentally wrong.

And now here we are.

Allowing citizens to tie others up with ropes is “reasonable force” 🤦🏻‍♀️

1 year ago 3 0 0 0

Apparently you’re allowed to use “reasonable force” when making the arrest and even tie people up.

Because last time we had a law like that it worked so well…

It allowed parents to physically abuse their children. It was called the defence of “reasonable force”

We repealed that.

As of January 2023, 86 settlements had been passed into law. The total value of all finalised settlements is $2.6 billion. This may seem like a lot of money, but in the next 12 months, the Government will spend $19 billion on national superannuation alone. The entire value of Treaty settlements over the past quarter of a century would cover superannuation payments for two months.

If anyone ever complains to you about Treaty settlements, tell them the total cost at January 2023 was $2.6 billion, but in 2024 Luxon gave $2.9 billion to landlords, and rents still increased. #NZpol

Watch: ‘Not necessarily a headlock’ – Goldsmith details new citizens' arrest powers The announcement comes amid a rise in retail crime.

Wondering what the time lag will be between these changes to citizens arrests being made law (physical restraint allowed to be used) and the first death by citizens arrest (arrestor or arrestee).

Opposed to gender affirming care?

Viagra? HRT for perimenopause? Testosterone supplements? Hair thinning treatments? Waxing? Breast reconstructions? Testicular implants? Jaw recontouring? Gynocomastia surgery?

Ohhh, so it’s only when it’s for trans people 🤔

The International Olympic Committee needs to act. They need to remove the games from Los Angeles in 2028. Countries must also boycott US sporting events.
