One of the best things about winter's minimalism is the way deciduous trees focus attention on form, texture & the relationship between branches & shards of sky. I'll be sharing some that warm my cockles in winter over the next few weeks. Have any of your favourites bared all yet? #trees #winter

My lovely chum gave me a present yesterday. It's being devoured. Why did I wait so long to read Zweig?
Thank you 💛
One of my all time favourites 💛

Today I am mostly writing Christmas cards, reading this lush book and trying to locate a parcel that's been lost by DPD. Harrumph.
Initial sketchbook doodle (plus the end of an unrelated shopping list) for the cartoon below...
Just embarking on this one. I fear it's going to be a bit sad...
Lovely evening with friends, which included eating pizza and hearing @matthaig.bsky.social
One of my favourite 19th century sporting pictures - young sisters Vanessa (at crease) and Virginia Stephen playing cricket. They became better known by their married names - Vanessa Bell and Virginia Woolf.
I think she's worth a try, but read a short story or a non fiction first. She's very poetic and can be tricky to navigate but the effort is well worth it
Attempted to tidy. Gave up.
Mrs Dalloway. No question. Why did I wait so long to begin my Woolf journey?

Another beautiful late autumn day. Is frost better than snow? It felt like it today...
We had snow in Oxfordshire but it's all gone now 😞
A big hello to all new book-loving Bluesky-ers!
(If you already follow us, (i) thank you, and (ii) a re-post would be very appreciated, to let people know we're here...)
(In other UK news, there's no snow here. It's very sad.)
Whoop! Tres bien!
Also, we have THESE…
Just settling down for the evening with my current read. It's even funnier than expected!
"What often gets lost in these accountability structures is that reading is about understanding - words on their own do not tell stories, share information, persuade or entertain."
And Now for the Weather Today is set to be agreeably alliterative across an assortment of areas although the occasional metaphor may cause some faces to cloud. Idioms will be coming down like stair rods in northern regions, while the south may experience the odd outbreak of similes, like an unexpected shower of arrows. In coastal, littoral, and seaside areas, synonyms remain likely. Further inland, sudden gusts of hyperbole look set to take your breath away and a series of scattered euphemisms will have you reaching for your wellies. If you’re driving, please be aware that tautologies of frozen ice are still affecting some roads, after a heavy and prolonged flurry of oxymorons. And finally – from tomorrow evening – expect to see the return of some light litotes, making next week’s outlook hardly the best. Brian Bilston
Today’s poem is called ‘And Now for the Weather’.
Sweet 💕
