Check out our highlight of the most recent example of subcellular mitochondrial specialization in @currentbiology.bsky.social. Be sure to also check out the beautiful work from David Sherwood's lab

A reminder to join us at 12pm ET today!
I'm excited to host the ASBMB LRD seminar series next Thurs 4/9 at 12pm ET. Please join for talks from @zakbaker.bsky.social (from @pagliarini-lab.bsky.social) and Sara Wong (from Adam Hughes' lab) on the intersection of mitochondria and lipid metabolism!

Excited to share that we are hiring a research assistant for my lab at UTSW in Dallas (www.nils-burger-lab.com). Please share with your mentees.

We are also looking for motivated, curious, and enthusiastic postdoctoral fellows!
Thanks!

Thanks Sam!
Thanks Jim!
Thanks Tim!

Thanks!
Thrilled to announce my official promotion to associate professor with tenure at UTSW! So grateful to all the trainees in the lab for their hard work and proud of their accomplishments over the last several years. This an individual recognition but truly a team effort!
thanks!
Does anyone have a favorite mNeonGreen antibody that works well for western and IPs?
Finally, we find that presequence strength influences yeast metabolism in a model of COX4 deletion. When fused to a leaderless COX4, only presequences that promote “strong” import behavior restore respiratory growth to wild-type levels. 8/n
Very excited to share our latest work, “Mitochondrial presequences harbor variable strengths to maintain organellar function,” led by the fantastically talented @washubbsb.bsky.social graduate student Youmian Yan. A 🧵

Congrats!
Congrats Sam!
Niemi lab and @washubbsb.bsky.social graduate student Youmian Yan gave a fantastic presentation on her work at the @asbmb.bsky.social meeting in Chicago! #ProudPI (photo credit to @kerikozul.bsky.social)
This is a very sad day. Shock, despair, disappointment, disbelief... These only scratch the surface in describing this decision and how I feel. I began my career in Parkinson's research in Richard's lab. What happens now to all the trainees still there?
Come to St. Louis this summer for the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation MitoMed 2025 Conference! We have a fantastic line up with lots of opportunities for short talks. We're also running a Masterclass for Early Career Investigators. More info here: www.umdfconference.org
Reminder to join us tomorrow at 12pm ET!
Join us March 26th at 12pm ET - @asbmb.bsky.social LRD seminar series.
We have two great mitochondria-focused lipid talks planned from @jasoncasler.bsky.social from @lllackner.bsky.social's lab and Kailash Venkatraman from @ibudin.bsky.social's lab.

Awesome news! Congrats!
Some good news (and fresh science) to break things up! Our work identifying a subpopulation of compositionally unique mitochondria that localize to filopodia and promote cell migration is now @currentbiology.bsky.social! Led by fantastic @madeleinempavey.bsky.social!

An excellent opportunity!
It’s so nice to be able to celebrate something this week. Newest work from the group! How are nuclear contents delivered to the cytosolic autophagy machinery while maintaining nuclear integrity? Nuclear envelope gymnastics! Cool role for Dnm1/Drp1. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Congrats on the beautiful discovery! Awesome to see how this story has progressed. And yes, nice to have some positive news this week!
In a great collaboration with @hummerlab.bsky.social and the Kräusslich lab: HIV capsid doesn't break at the NPC; instead, it cracks open the NPC itself! Details in Cell: authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S... @mpibp.bsky.social @uniheidelberg.bsky.social A thread below:
