I have read and gifted Ring the hill and Villager but haven’t got to this one yet. What very special bookmarks! Lovely

A wonderful thread on Persuasion. My favourite JA novel and my favourite adaptation

Paperback copies of William Golding The Inheritors; John Christopher Death of Grass; Alan Garner Elidor; Penelope Fitzgerald Offshore
In March I revisited the Inheritors and Offshore. Loved Elidor, terrified by Death of Grass and drunkenly lurched between reading and listening to Under the Volcano. Thank you @backlisted.bsky.social
De Beauvoir The image of her; CS Lewis Selected works; PH Newby Something to Answer for; Muriel Spark Symposium; Van Der Wouden The Safekeep

Bit late to say this is what I read in February. All were rewarding, I needed Audible to get through the Evenings. Absolutely loved The Safekeep
View of a my legs in floral skirt and navy leather laced ankle boots next to my Trek hybrid everyday bike
Town shoes and rocking a cute little skirt- look no Lycra!
I attemped it about 3 years ago but could not get into it. This time I have listened on Audible to help get started. Sometimes I listen and read or switch from one to the other. If I don't concentrate its confusing - Like a drunken dream - appropriately!
Copies of PH Newby Something to Answer for; William Golding The Inheritors; Penelope Fitzgerald Offshore; Malcolm Lowry Under the Volcano and, on Kindle, Peter Rushforth Kindergarten
My “content vessel” overflows.

Sometimes it feels like that Magic Porridge Pot but I’m not shouting “Stop”
Blue sky, white fluffy clouds reflected in a lake
Perfect day to use a bike for transport.
My leg stepping onto my blue Trek bicycle in ginger coloured dungarees and pink shoes
Dungarees and pink shoes. Look no Lycra!
In 1965 I was 8 years old and a regular reader of Treasure Magazine. I loved these observation tests. Score = 8
A perverse pleasure to read????
… and that’s how to distinguish it from blackthorn? I will check my local blossom on my bike ride tomorrow
Wishing you happy new beginnings. You will have lots more time for reading. I volunteer in a charity second-hand bookshop .
I like running, I especially like that getting hot and sweaty reminds me how wonderful bikes are: taking the hard work out of my journey, no e-assist, just some regular gears taking the strain. Bliss!

I found Backlisted in 2019 and it revolutionised how and what I read. Thank you to Andy, John and Nicky, Una and the whole Backlisted community. Shedding a little tear but also looking forward to all that you are planning on Patreon.
It makes me feel sooo good. No olympian feats today; just 3 miles there and 3 miles back on a heavy old hybrid - I'm glowing !
Started with The Bell and it did require some staying power. I found The Sacred and Profane Love machine really funny, a farce. I got Under the Net from a charity shop so may read that at some point
Paperback copies of Iris Murdoch’s The Bell and The Sacred and Profane Love Machine. Also: Lucy Mangan’s Bookish, Balle’s On the calculation of volume and Schlee’s Rhine Journey
January was rubbish for cycling but excellent for reading. Rounded off the month with Iris Murdoch. How have I not read her until now? Thanks to @backlisted.bsky.social for prompting this with another excellent podcast.
Whoooaah? Really? It’s in my TBR pile but languishing at the bottom. Promoting it up now!
There’s an Iris Murdoch Podcast. I didn’t know that. I will take a look. Thank you
A paragraph from Murdoch’s Sacred and profane love machine when Harriet surprises her husband by taking on his infidelity as a cause that she can adopt and save
Halfway through and loving it! Looking forward to the @backlisted conversation
Well read paperback copy of Rhine Journey by Ann Schlesinger
I very much enjoyed this. Loved Charlotte’s imagined love life. Sadly, she has sacrificed her life for others. Thank you to @backlisted.bsky.social and many others for suggesting it.
A bit disappointed with the wrinkled scuffed copy that World of Books listed as very good £6.60
Yes! The Townhouse was a wonderful Backlisted find from a great guest: Lucy Mangan who talks about the book in her latest memoir ( see also Bookworm in which she talks about children’s books)
Yes the Protect and Survive booklet and all the information had a great impact on me as a child. Wow, not seen this since but this is so scarily familiar.
Now, if the women were wearing suggested suitable clothing for the weather - that would help.
i like books about books eg "My life in Middlemarch" and "All the Lives We Ever Lived: Seeking Solace in Virginia Woolf" but this sounds like totally different take on that. I shall seek it out.
All excellent choices. I love Elif Shafak’s books. I haven’t read Intermezzo yet.
