Frodo Baggins sits at his desk, reading Bilbo's book.
A merfolk sits on a coral outcrop, reading.
A little Frodo Baggins painting on a Rhystic Study AP - I tried to give the composition a similar feel to the original painting

A knight in rusty armor and a wooden shield, brandishes his sword at an unseen foe. An angel made of prismatic light flies by his side, ribbons of light wrapping around the knight.
The Spectral Guide -watercolor, acryla gouache on paper
This painting was created for Commander Sealed's 2026 playmat, the original will be auctioned in August.
My concept was to portray the strength that comes from community, the guidance and courage that we lend to one another in trying times.

Three panel comic. Panel 1: scene from the movie Aliens; Ripley is in a mech suit and delivers her iconic line: “get away from her, you bitch!” Panel 2: the xenomorph queen lunges at Ripley in the robotic suit and they engage in a fight. Panel 3: later, the xenomorph queen is standing in the shower, mid wash. She says, “‘it takes one to know one, honey.’ That’s what I should have said.”

A close up of a knight and his guardian angel
Prints will be in my shop after the Commander Sealed event in September - until then, the only way to get the art is to get a Commander Sealed playmat or participate in the original art auction!

“Stasis” is a portrait painted by the artist Zara Alfonso, and is the first piece in her series about invisible illness. A portrait painting of a girl with skin so pale she’s almost translucent, her lips are tinged blue and she gazes upward through seemingly unseeing eyes. Pale moths and winged insects cover the expanse of her face and body, blending into her skin in places.
“Medusa Portrait” is a portrait painted by the artist Zara Alfonso. A portrait of a young Medusa who looks peacefully towards the viewer, her hair is flowing mass of thick iridescent dark indigo snakes tied up in a head wrap.
"Winternight Stories” is an oil painting by the artist Zara Alfonso, done for the Magic: The Gathering Tarkir: Dragonstorm. An orc stands in the middle of a small crowd, telling a story of the battle against dragons with a swirl of watery blue magic.
Zara Alfonso's oil painting of the official card illustration for “Dualcaster Mage” for Magic: The Gathering Secrets of Strixhaven Special Guests.
Hi #portfolioday I'm Zara, a Canadian artist working mainly on Magic: The gathering and painting for myself in my free time 🖤

A giant steer with a city on its horns
A man striding across an art deco room, brandishing magical fists
A woman being overtaken by gold and jewels
Lothlorien, a giant tree that houses an elven kingdom.
Hey #portfolioday, I'm a Canadian freelance illustrator who loves bold shapes, rich colours, and whimsy. Most of my recent work is for Magic: the Gathering, but I try to fit in a bit of personal work here and there.

The artist and her sketches
3x sketches of a magic whale swirling through a sky above a festival. The whale leaves a whimsical trail of magic behind it.
4x different pencil compositions depicting a magic whale swirling through a sky.
"Spectacular Skywhale" Magic card
Spectacular Skywhale sketches - while the original painting has found a home, these sketches are still up for grabs!
I used graphite to sketch out my compositions, and watercolour and acryla gouache to refine my colour scheme. I love getting to share the rough stages of my Magic work!

The artist with the painting
A painting of a magic whale, twirling through the sky, leaving a trail of magic behind it. Below it is a group of people shooting fireworks and celebrating!
The Magic card "Spectacular Skywhale"
Spectacular Skywhale - painted for Magic: The Gathering's "Secrets of Strixhaven".
I love getting to paint large celestial beings and little tiny people, so this illustration was a real joy for me. I wanted it to feel as whimsical and freeing as possible, as though you're dancing with the whale.

Thank you Kim! I was halfway through when I started regretting my decision immensely! It all worked out but I will say, straight lines are not my forte and this is nothing by straight lines xD

The artist holding her painting
An M. C. Escher-esque pattern of tessellating geometric birds and fish. A few birds and fish seem to lift out of the pattern, towards the viewer
"Expansion Algorithm" Magic Card
Expansion Algorithm - painted for Magic: The Gathering's "Secrets of Strixhaven". Watercolour and acryla gouache on Arches watercolour paper.
Perhaps my most challenging painting to date - an Escher-esque pattern of tessilating fish and birds, emerging from a flat plane.

The artwork shows a scene with a city and an autonomous bus in the center. There are passengers in the bus. Some are sitting and some are standing. The bus has dome-shaped roofs. A man in a long coat is standing outside the bus holding a briefcase. Another man is selling some fake or stolen watch behind the bus. There are buildings and bridges in the background with a few more characters. All the characters are skeletons. There are some autonomous mini cars around the artwork. The artwork is densely decorated with patterns and tiles. It is mostly green, mustard, red and blue.
"City of Dreams". A commissioned illustration I drew for @niedermeyer.online a while ago. Still one of my favorite pieces! Haven't shared it here on it's own yet and thought I should! Closeups will be in the comments.

Why does this sunlight feel so alienating? Who is watching me inside of it?
I didn't know this would be the last time the sun would set.
Destruction illuminates the horizon just the same.
The view seemed insignificant, but it was just a precursor.
Sometimes I enjoy painting the mundane with slight distortion.
Nothing is wrong but everything is.
