Very important new report in @nbmediacoop.bsky.social.

Patrice had also just stepped into the role of director and was in a ceremony at the time of the shooting. Afterwards, she said, “I look at my phone and all I see was Iggy was shot by the RCMP.” The police only called her team after the shooting to help with crowd control.

SIRT report on fatal police shooting contained false information about Indige-Watch, peacekeepers say Steven "Iggy" Dedam of Elsipogtog First Nation was in a good mood on the morning of Sept. 8, 2024, when

However, the organization is searching for a new source of funding to stay afloat, after a five-year grant for the pilot project dried up at the end of March.

In Elsipogtog, the largest Indigenous community in New Brunswick, RCMP are now cooperating with Indige-Watch, according to Patrice Dedam. "The relationship is strengthening. It needs more strength. But we’re doing the best that we can right now.”

Bronson Paul's case is currently under investigation by SIRT, as well as another deadly police shooting that happened in January: in Nova Scotia, Darrell Augustine of Sipekne’katik First Nation was also shot to death by RCMP.

The deadly pattern of police shootings continues in New Brunswick: in January, Bronson Paul of Neqotkuk was also shot to death by police in his home.

Neqotkuk's chief stated that members of local security would normally accompany RCMP to de-escalate incidents on-reserve, but that didn’t happen.

SIRT director Erin Nauss has now apologized. However, she didn’t respond to questions about whether the publicly available report will be corrected, whether the story raises concerns about her investigator, or whether he may face discipline.

The organization has dealt with a number of volatile situations, and many people in the community own hunting rifles, carving knives, and other items that could be considered weapons, both women said.

Sheneeka Millier, the founding director, also told the NB Media Co-op she "wouldn’t have said anything like that to SIRT.” She said "there are always risks when dealing with mental health/wellness checks. That’s where our training kicked it."

She said the SIRT investigator asked her leading questions. “They worded the questions in a way in which it would benefit [the police]" and she felt “interrogated” and not understood. At the time, she was grieving: Iggy was her first cousin.

However, the only two people to have served as director of Indige-Watch say that’s not true. “My team does not stand down” if someone has a weapon, said Patrice Dedam, the current head of Indige-Watch.

Last year, SIRT — the agency that investigates cases such as police shootings in NB and NS — released a report clearing police of wrongdoing. It also said that Indige-Watch "would not respond" in cases involving a weapon, citing conversations with its past and current directors.

NEW: After an RCMP officer shot and killed Iggy Dedam in his home in Elsipogtog First Nation, questions swirled about why police hadn't first called Indige-Watch, the Indigenous-led peacekeeper unit in Elsipogtog First Nation. Many believe they could have saved his life.

I don't know what’s going to happen at 8pm tonight. My hope is Trump will back off. My guess is something non-nuclear, but I dont rule nuclear out.

What I do know is that unless we deal with the imbalance of power that causes 'Trumps,' disaster is inevitable. #USpoli #CDNpoli #Oligarchy #Inequality

NOW: B52 bombers are literally in the air on their way to Iran and hundreds of thousands of Iranians are in the streets waving flags and surrounding bridges & power plants.

Difficult to imagine this has any precedent in modern warfare.

The concentration camps where Israelis have been torturing Palestinians are now death camps. But it’s okay, according to racist scum in the West, because it’s “democratic”. May you all rot in hell.

BREAKING: Israel's Knesset has passed a law to execute Palestinian detainees.
Death by hanging. Mandatory sentencing. No pardon. 90 days to carry out.

It applies through military courts with a 96% conviction rate. It does not apply to Israelis.

Just to clarify, since some don’t seem to understand: 1) This death sentence will be delivered by military courts, there’s no jury, no representation 2) These military courts try Palestinian children 3) A child who throws a stone can be deemed a “terrorist” and now put to death.

Numerous Israeli politicians have said things to the effect of “there are no innocents in Gaza”, “they are all collectively responsible for October 7”, “they are all terrorists, yes, even the children”, and there are numerous reports, going back decades, of Palestinians being tortured into claiming credit for crimes they didn’t commit—it was only days ago that we saw images of a baby boy with cigarette burns on his legs, tortured by the IDF to get his father to confess—and despite all this, there are dipshits in my mentions trying to pretend like it matters how this executioner’s bill defines terrorist, as if we were talking about a normal state with normal legal mechanisms instead of an apartheid colony that has been systematically mass murdering Palestinians every day for the past three years and now has a legal mechanism for killing the 10,000 or so people they have detained. Anyone defending this is a psychopath.

I hope that people on here can conjure as much energy for the fact that Israel has 'legalized' arbitrary military 'court' death sentences for stone-throwing Palestinian children as they can for indignation at hearing the words "Free Palestine."

I truly do.

Small modular reactors too risky, but consider another ‘large-scale’ nuclear plant: NB Power review A newly published review of NB Power suggests that the provincial government should consider planning for another "large scale" nuclear

A review of NB Power suggests that the province should consider another “large scale” nuclear plant alongside the current one at Point Lepreau, but it doesn’t recommend any further pursuit of small modular reactors.

It could be the last nail in the coffin for the controversial technology in N.B.

He could call for nationalizing the tar sands, using the profits to fund a green transition. The Breach's Martin Lukacs (an advisor to Lewis) called for as much in this Guardian column years ago. Lewis' policy of a windfall tax seems milquetoast in comparison.

Jason Kenney:
I am ashamed to admit that I once gave Viktor Orban the benefit of the doubt.

He was once a brave young anti communist activist who represented the idealism of the post Soviet era.

Early in his government, he led important conservative reforms, and offered a much needed counterbalance in the EU to the Brussels elites on uncontrolled migration, woke extremism, etc..

I have friends who have served in his government who I believe to be decent, principled people.

But in recent years he has morphed into a lackey of Moscow and Beijing.

His obsessive attacks on Ukraine are odious. He is pathetically clinging to power by demonizing the poor people of Ukraine, victims of Putin’s murderous war to restore the Russian Empire.

He has tragically become what he once fought against: a corrupt authoritarian.

Hopefully the proud Hungarian people will soon end this humiliation.

Quoting Szabolcs Panyi:
💥Viktor Orbán angrily responded to protesters who booed him at a rally in opposition-led Győr. He accused them of promoting Ukrainian interests and wanting to send “Hungarians’ money to Ukraine,” as his campaign follows a path-dependent strategy blaming everything on Ukraine.

Jason Kenney had no problem when Orbán engaged in naked antisemitism, or scapegoated queer and trans people, or when he was the most corrupt leader in Europe and impoverished Hungary, but going after Ukrainians is a bridge too far for him.
