Ace portrait practice I did a while ago 🧡

13 page one piece fancomic. page 1. panel 1: a crowd of marines stand in parade rest around a courtyard. robin, nami, bepo, chopper, shachi, penguin, and zoro are lined up and bound against a wall, and the polar tang rests bisected in a building nearby. in the center of the courtyard, law and luffy are kneeling in handcuffs as a marine commander speaks to them. it is important to note that law is incredibly sweaty, with even deeper eye-bags than usual. he looks unwell, because at this point of the fic he is in fact very irradiated due to his own questionable choices. there is a large hole, or oubliette, in front of them. the commander says, "the reality is this, mr. trafalgar: i have your crew, i have your ship, and i have you trussed up like a holiday capon." panel 2: the commander continues to monologue, but luffy quirks an eyebrow and asks, "what's a 'capon?'" law replies, "he's implying that i'm a castrated rooster." panel 3: luffy looks really puzzled and a bit irritated now, and he's surrounded by question marks. panel 4: law clarifies, "he's implying that i don't have balls." luffy looks shocked. panel 5: luffy's eyes clearly drop to law's groin in curiosity. law grits his teeth and squints at him, fully aware of what luffy is thinking right now.

page 2. panel 1: luffy leans over law's shoulder to try and get a better look as law half-turns away in what is definitely not embarrassment. "stop it," law says, as luffy starts, "torao..." panel 2: the commander — who is actually nezumi from arlong park, with his mouse ears and whiskers — has been continuing to monologue indistinctly behind them. he now comes back into view mid-sentence, saying, "i shall produce my lovely lacquer and coat this entire parade ground with it! unless you tell me what i want to know." he holds up a hand which is dripping dark devil fruit lacquer. panel 3: from his place on his knees, law smirks up at nezumi and says, "fuck you." luffy grins brightly at law, seated smashed up against him. panel 4: nezumi grabs luffy by the shoulders and starts to ooze lacquer over him. "not enough incentive for you?" he asks. "well, then... i suppose i'll just start with the boy." luffy looks at his shoulder in more annoyance than alarm.

page 3. panel 1: law glares up at nezumi, conflicted and concerned. from off-screen, nezumi says, "quickly, now, mr. trafalgar." panel 2: a close-up of luffy's shoulder disappearing into the lacquer. nezumi continues, "tell me what you know about the will of d!" panel 3: a close-up of law's worried eyes. panel 4: luffy looks at law, even as he's coated. he's glaring defiantly, telling law with his eyes not to say anything.

page 4. panel 1: silhouettes of nezumi, luffy, and law. law snaps, "go fuck yourself." panel 2: nezumi sneers down at him in disappointment. he simply says, "pity." panel 3: nezumi kicks law in the back, tipping him down toward the hole in front of them. luffy leans forward, yelling but ultimately still chained up. panel 4: a shot from law's point of view. his legs and chained hands flail upward as he falls. luffy is looking down, panicked, as nezumi leers. panel 5: law shouts as he continues to fall. his arms and legs are still flailing, but the opening is now much farther away.

this whole fic is law at his best (so, his worst), and i was just floored by this scene that the author describes as "law escapes the oubliette with the power of love and radiation"
