A softly lit portrait illustration of a smiling young man with short hair, wearing a light gray hood or veil draped over his head and shoulders. His skin is rendered in warm, rich tones, and his gaze slightly to the side with a calm, content expression. One hand gently holds the edge of the fabric near his collarbone. The background is dark and textured, emphasizing the subject’s face and subtle highlights.

Blue water with ripples
Wilted rose and leaves covered with ice
Detailed ripples in a shallow stream
Water and its forms

Laid out flat, it clearly has things that need to be fixed; on my couch, I don't see that, it's alive and as cozy as ever
I've been contemplating how to repair it: the binding is the easiest part, probably, but I need to wash it first. And then I have my own collection of old colorful tshirts that I want to applique on it into abstract schools of fish swirling across the front of the frames
The same quilt, laid out flat across the floor. It is made up of twelve big tshirt blocks, two or three of which have faded to pale blankness. Behind the blocks are interlocking frames over a dark background.
The two blank faded blocks become less important; the binding being frayed in spots reminds me that I want to care for this thing she made
It's when it's folded over on the back of my couch (where it usually is, these days, to be pulled over my legs while watching movies) that it turns into cascades of water
Still, the design of the blocks itself is pretty static (the quilter she hired to do the quilting part made beautiful swirling shapes, but that's not visible from far away)
It's big squares with interlocking frames on it that she did in contrasting swirling coral and teal colors over a dark oceanic striated blue-green. It was beautiful, and still is, though a couple of the big tshirt blocks have almost worn completely off (the way old tshirts do)
This is my favorite quilt: my mom made it for me in high school, and I've brought it to pretty much every place I've lived since. It was a complicated quilt for her to make bc it was only her first or second quilt top. My sister has one with dragons; mine was fish and whales.
A tshirt quilt of blues and bright tropical colors is draped messily over the back of a couch. It's hard to see what images are on the tshirts, but it's fish, whales, and dolphins.
It was a neat idea; I really liked it
Where the edge of a design is changes depending on the size of what you drape it over. On a bed, it ridges and scrunches. Things that are focal points on a flat thing vanish and reappear
Basically the gist of it was that quilts are experienced and seen very differently in museums (or photographed flat for Instagram) than in-use. In use they are rumpled, and curved, and 3-D.
I saw a story on Instagram this week that really got me : by laurashaw.quilts; unfortunately, the full article is on Substack, which I refuse to click on or link to, but it has stuck with me
A handmade pottery mug that reads FINAL GIRL. The mug is made from speckled white clay and glazed blood red inside with blood red dripping down the outsides.
A handmade pottery mug made from white speckled clay that reads DUMP HIM (INTO THE SEA) and is glazed a layered blue green on the handle, rim, and interior. Drips of glaze are traveling down the outside.
A white speckled clay mug that reads MENTALLY I AM HERE in black letters with a black image of a haunted house. The interior, handle, and rim are glazed glossy black.
My hand holding up a handmade pottery mug made from white speckled clay. The mug reads PEOPLE DISPLEASER and is glazed a thick drippy pink on the rim handle and interior.
I glazed mugs all day. Would you like to adopt one? littleedenpottery.etsy.com

I love my friends
talk with friend, get game idea, get excited about game idea: aww yesss
for vibes: this bff and I once spent a 2 solid hours figuring out the merits/side effects/hijinks of "if I give my pseudodragon familiar beer, how fast would it get tipsy?"
In this digital illustration, three baby dragons are sheltered from rain by their gigantic mama dragon. They are on a rooftop in front of a cityscape. The babies gaze up at their mom, smiling.

My first completed illustration of the year is a follow up to one of my most popular illustrations (linked below). This new one is titled "Fealty." 😁

@murdermfiction.bsky.social I have a coworker who asks a Question Of The Day regularly around my department, and Friday's was "thoughts on true crime?"
I was explaining this podcast to them; they added it to their evening commute playlist right then! 🙂
