First two weeks of parenthood are a total blur. Sleep is sporadic. 90% of convos are about when she last fed or pooped. The other 10% is looking up from my phone to say something like “the president just slandered the pope again.”

Kevin McCarthy says Trump controls Congress

Kevin McCarthy says Trump controls Congress

A big reason we are in this constitutional crisis is that Republicans like Kevin McCarthy refused to break with Trump after January 6th.

McCarthy backed Trump during a visit to Mar-a-Lago just weeks after Jan. 6. This was after McCarthy publicly admitted that Trump was culpable for the attack.

Not going to be publishing many editions of the @thebulwark.com Press Pass newsletters for a bit as I’m getting adjusted to being a dad.

I’ll be back soon but we’re gonna have some great guest authors that I hope everyone will show some love.

Personnel is policy in the Trump Administration, at least when it comes to guns. On the one hand, DOJ is arguing it's unconstitutional to ban the sale of AR-15s. On the other, it's arguing it can ban literally all knives.

The cover of JD Vance's forthcoming book Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith. The photo used for the dust jacket depicts a very pretty church in an Appalachian setting, with woods in the background and what looks like the beginnings of a sunrise over distant hills. One look at it and you'd probably think, "That is definitely a Protestant church," and you'd be right

Great item today from @cheetah.bsky.social on JD Vance's forthcoming conversion memoir. TL;DR: Although Vance is Catholic, the cover photo for his book depicts a (very photogenic) Methodist church. www.thebulwark.com/i/192730409/...

Track AIPAC’s Methodology Is Just Vibes Critics of Israel are lumped together with its strongest allies if ‘Track AIPAC’ doesn’t like them enough.

Also in the newsletter: the church on Vance's new book isn't a Catholic one, which is odd. www.thebulwark.com/p/track-aipa...

The red and green Track AIPAC graphics you see all over the internet are assigned based entirely on vibes. Candidates with higher ratings on their own cited policy scoring systems even get the dreaded red card than lower scoring members with green. www.thebulwark.com/p/track-aipa...

I categorize candidates into three distinct groups:

1. Drops out before Iowa/NH/SC
2. Drops out the morning after Iowa/NH/SC
3. Keeps running well into the springtime

Rahm is firmly in category 2. But it's important understand that all 2's should really be 1's. Occasionally a 3 should also be a 1.

It's funny that this likely came about because someone was comparing him to McNamara and then another was like "and he's dumb lol." How great nicknames are made.

The GOP’s Voter-Suppression Bill Hangs by a Thread But how can Republicans say this bill is the only thing that can save the midterms for them and then not pass it?

Idk how you repeatedly claim your electoral chances hinge on something passing and then grossly overestimate your ability to pass it. It’s a foolproof way to discourage your base from turning out. It does, however, create a handy pretext for further election denial www.thebulwark.com/p/the-gops-v...

An Evening at Polymarket’s Totally Broken Pop-up Bar The prediction-gambling company massively screwed up its attempt to schmooze D.C.

The Polymarket bar opening was a flop, sure. But it was just a sliver of their efforts to sanitize and legitimize their insanely corrupt, culturally corrosive operation. www.thebulwark.com/p/an-evening...
