Day 28
Death Grips - Exmilitary
Not quite as abrasive and in your face. I didn't mind this but didn't really jump out to me. I very much get the appeal and it is certainly bold but perhaps this one suffered slightly from my own expectations. Was decent tho

Day 27
Pusha-T - DAYTONA
A really tight record! Plenty to grasp onto, lyrically it feels clever and there's no moment that's just filler. Really nice sampling too, I didn't know what to expect coming into this but I have been rewarded with a solid succinct hip-hop album

Day 26
Qebrus - ◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙◙
Absolutely unbearable and unlistenable. I don't mind glitchy electronic music but this literally was just a whole bunch of unpleasant noises. The less said the better.

Day 25
Jorge Ben Jor - Jorge Ben
A very wonderful time. Another beautiful Brazilian record that's just pure joy to listen to. The guitar work is excellent, he has a fantastic voice and while I cannot understand the words it feels like a pure album

Day 24
Milo - so the flies don't come
Some gripping and almost addicting lyricism here. It's laid back, it's whimsical, it's really well made and he's very talented. Felt like it was a good length album where it doesn't wear itself out
Day 23
Candido - Dancin' & Prancin'
I think just looking at this album cover and the album name you're in for a good time. It's just a whole lot of fun. Very much music to dance to and absolutely masterful use of bongos

Day 22
Nina Simone - Wild in the Wind
This album is fantastic, I don't know what I can say about this that probably hasn't already been said. Her voice is just phenomenal and the songs feel very powerful. Geee writing about music is hard

Day 21
Flying Lotus - Cosogramma
I enjoyed this! Some cool Hip hop and jazz instrumentation. Went into this a bit apprehensive having not having clicked with another album but maybe this is the one this is the one that finally gets me into Flying Lotus. Really cool chill album.

Day 20
The Caretaker - An Empty Bliss Beyond This World
Unfortunately this one was a big shrug of the shoulders for me. Some very cute old samples, but I'm not really sure if I'm just being played old records or whether the mufflyness and crackliness is being amplified or not

Day 19
Bryars: The Sinking of the Titanic
A real contrast over the last couple of days! I'm a sucker for violins so I did enjoy this generally, did feel quite repetitive but I did like the concept behind it. Certainly a lot of talent but not inspiring me that much
Day 18
Betty Davis - They Say I'm Different
My word what a horny couple of days for mwe. This was pretty good though, very funky and loose and felt a bit like a jam session which I enjoyed. She's got a great voice and like how she pronounced "skunk"

Day 17
Aphrodite's Child - 666
I wasn't expecting some mad Prog Rock! This was largely an enjoyable listen, not groundbreaking for this genre and shouldn't have been totally surprised by one song being sex noises for like 5 minutes
#mwe
Day 16
3776 - Saijiki
Unfortunately very monotonous. I understand the intention of the album and perhaps over an EP length or even a shorter album I'd appreciate this more. But at over an hour long this became quite a frustrating listen as it could be great but it's really banking on one idea

Day 15
Fuubutsushi
There's nothing really bad to say about this album. It's very pretty, calming and cosy. Has a lazy Sunday or intimate cinematic feel to it. All very pleasant but does fade into the background and you kinda forget it's even playing
#mwe
Day 14
Clube de Esquina
Absolutely beautiful, while I do not understand the words you can appreciate the singer's voice. It's quite amazing the contrast of Brazil's political climate at the time to the calmness of this album and the over arching feeling of hope. A wonderful discovery
#mwe
Day 13
Neil Ardley - Symphony of Amaranths
Some pleasant jazz and some weird poems(?) all in all it was an interesting record but peaked very early on when it was at its jazziest. I cannot forgive Neil Ardley though for duping me into listening to the English national anthem

Happy International Stout and Kebab Day to all who celebrate
Day 12
Machine Girl - wlfgrl
Starts off incredibly abrasive but eventually gets to some tracks where I can latch onto something. It sounds like it could be the soundtrack to bomberman. There were elements I enjoyed throughout but in the context of an album it's not for me, too stressful...
#mwe
Day 11
Prince - Sign O The Times
I cannot comprehend how he comes up with his ideas and his voice is just incredible. What I enjoy about this is that musically it's fantastic but is also very fun and no way pretentious imo. Didn't feel too long and made the commute home go by very quickly
#MWE
Day 10
Todd Edwards - Prima Edizione
Absolutely iconic. Even though I am familiar with his work I had never listened to this and it feels like listening to so many artists I love for the first time again. It's confident, fresh, excellent. Love hearing the touches of garage and french house
#MWE
Day 9
Gia Margaret - Mia Gargaret
A collection of sweet soothing ambient sounds. I really like the various sounds of nature intertwined with the synths and pianos. Quite a therapeutic listen
Day 8
Autolux - Future Perfect
Very conflicted on this one. On paper it's right up my street. The production is excellent there's not a moment the album is just cruising however despite the grunge and shoegaze it didn't elicit much emotion in me just an appreciation of good technical ability
#mwe
Day 7
Electric Wizard - dopethrone
I enjoyed the general lo-fi distorted doomy heavy sound of this album. While it is cool I had this album figured out early on. It isn't bad at all, in fact I do think all the songs are very good. But at 75 minutes it does turn into a bit of a chore
#MWE
Day 6
S.Maharba - S.Maharba
Very glitchy but pretty cool, spooky, atmospheric production. This has a very intense feel and is certainly not one to listen to while driving again. I feel like the fact it was a short album really helped it as at no point did anything outstay it's welcome
#mwe
Day 5
Prefab Sprout - Swoon
Wonderfully unorthodox 80s indie-pop. Very intricately put together and yet at the same time it feels broad. There's a lot to latch onto here whether it's McAloon's full lyrics, the swoony instrumental, playing maybe every chord or the band name
#mwe
Day 4
Neon Indian - Vega Intl. Night School
A real endorphin booster. This is a good time all round, nothing groundbreaking but it's a real enjoyable synthpop/indietronica album which certainly scratches an itch for me. Best listened to in a summer evening but also okay with spreadsheets
#MWE
Day 3
Leonard Cohen - You Want It Darker
Poignant and haunting album. Very atmospheric, musically things are kept fairly minimal but very much to great effect. Quite intense listening with noise cancelling headphones, I'm a sucker for violins too. An effortlessly good farewell from a legend
#MWE
Day 2
My Morning Jacket - Z
I'm surprised how critically acclaimed this album is. It's perfectly pleasant but for me generally lacking any real edge. Obvious comparisons to The Shins for me. Couple of songs standing out on an okay album, decent listen for a sunny Sunday
#MWE
Day 1
Arthur Verocai - Arthur Verocai
Stunning album here. It certainly doesn't stay in one lane, and has overall a very cinematic feel. The opener quite spacy despite being largely acoustic. Even with ALOT going on instrumentally it was too much, in fact it was perfectly put together.
#MWE
Right I've always been too lazy and worried about how bad I am at words to do this but as I'm trying to be more intentional in 2025 I'm finally doing #MWE
I am in an album listen group with old uni friends (An Album Party) and I'm going to use this to catch up on the best picks I'm yet to listen to
