Helpful thread from @clairelamman.bsky.social about the new results from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument #DESI team. The implication, if this evidence persists, is that the dark energy currently causing the accelerated expansion of the universe is evolving in unexpected ways 😮

Context is a bottleneck when working with LLMs, not prompt engineering.

Finishing the year with these thoughts. Much got done, much needs to be done, and that’s why I’m excited about the future we’re building at thatworks.ai

My latest weekly post: garbage in, garbage out.

Dumping data into a LLM's context is like recording in a noisy room – you end up with competing signals that steer the output into vague generalities.

So, how do you maximise the signal to noise ratio?

My daily catch up of “interesting stuff” is now fragmented equally across Bluesky, Threads, IG stories (IG feed sucks), and X. It feels like a net loss on my time, compared to the actual new/useful information I’m gaining.

I’ve been pretty happy with all the tech choices we’ve made at thatworks.ai. We use a standard react/nodejs/k8s stack but some of these older JS libs are just terrible. For nodejs, we replaced webpack with esbuild and our build time improved by 120x! create-react-app 🤢 is next.

Scaling Laws Be Damned: Are LLMs hitting limits? Are we discovering scaling laws? Who cares. We've hardly begun to exhaust what the current generation can do.

Maybe they’re just using the old “louder=better” trick 😄

Spotify also probably sounds louder because they (loudness) normalising all streams to avoid you constantly reaching for the volume control. There’s probably an option to turn this off. Most labels will upload the same masters to all services.

There’s no perceptual difference, as confirmed by studies, between 320kbps and lossless. It’s all just a marketing gimmick.
