NEST would provide $1,500 during pregnancy and $500 per month for the first six months of a baby’s life, support at the moment families need it most. This approach could reach nearly 40% of births in Illinois.

Yesterday in Springfield, ESILA joined parents and doctors for a subject matter hearing on the Newborn Equity Support Transfer (NEST)—a policy to support new and expectant moms with direct cash during pregnancy and early infancy. 🧵👇🏼

Loopholes, subsidies, and special benefits for corporations and the ultra-rich are the real problem in our tax code, yet too many of our leaders refuse to address it.

A fair tax system would curb inequality and put cash back into working families’ pockets.

That’s the system we’re fighting for.

Now, as President Trump misleads us about his tax policy, Republicans are planning deeper cuts to programs that help families weather the cost-of-living crisis.

A fair tax system would reverse the cuts and repair the damage that’s already been done instead of making things worse for working folks.

The administration also ended #DirectFile, a popular, efficient service that allowed taxpayers to prep and file online for free.

A fair tax system would revive Direct File and save folks’ time, money, and stress every tax season, instead of forcing Americans to cough up cash to TurboTax.

The GOP also killed #AffordableCareAct tax credits that lower health costs. Now, premiums have skyrocketed, folks are cutting back on basic needs, and 1M+ have dropped coverage.

A fair system would kill corporate tax loopholes instead of killing tax credits that shield families from high costs.

The GOP kicked over 2.6 million kids off the #ChildTaxCredit because their parents are immigrants, and locked another 2 million out of the full credit because their parents don’t earn enough money.

A fair CTC would lift up the most vulnerable families instead of leaving them behind.

Last summer, the GOP passed H.R.1, a bill that handed over $1 trillion in tax cuts to the ultra-wealthy and paid for it by slashing #Medicaid and #SNAP.

It also weakened cash supports that help working families, like the Child Tax Credit, and failed to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits.

Rising prices on everything from gas to groceries to healthcare are pushing working folks to the brink.

Instead of offering families relief, Republicans have been pursuing an agenda that benefits billionaires and big corporations over working families.
