By supporting families at this critical time, NEST aims to improve birth outcomes, reduce stress, and lower Medicaid costs.

NEST would provide $1,500 during pregnancy and $500 per month for the first six months of a baby’s life, support at the moment families need it most. This approach could reach nearly 40% of births in Illinois.
Yesterday in Springfield, ESILA joined parents and doctors for a subject matter hearing on the Newborn Equity Support Transfer (NEST)—a policy to support new and expectant moms with direct cash during pregnancy and early infancy. 🧵👇🏼
Loopholes, subsidies, and special benefits for corporations and the ultra-rich are the real problem in our tax code, yet too many of our leaders refuse to address it.
A fair tax system would curb inequality and put cash back into working families’ pockets.
That’s the system we’re fighting for.
Now, as President Trump misleads us about his tax policy, Republicans are planning deeper cuts to programs that help families weather the cost-of-living crisis.
A fair tax system would reverse the cuts and repair the damage that’s already been done instead of making things worse for working folks.
The administration also ended #DirectFile, a popular, efficient service that allowed taxpayers to prep and file online for free.
A fair tax system would revive Direct File and save folks’ time, money, and stress every tax season, instead of forcing Americans to cough up cash to TurboTax.
The GOP also killed #AffordableCareAct tax credits that lower health costs. Now, premiums have skyrocketed, folks are cutting back on basic needs, and 1M+ have dropped coverage.
A fair system would kill corporate tax loopholes instead of killing tax credits that shield families from high costs.
The GOP kicked over 2.6 million kids off the #ChildTaxCredit because their parents are immigrants, and locked another 2 million out of the full credit because their parents don’t earn enough money.
A fair CTC would lift up the most vulnerable families instead of leaving them behind.
Last summer, the GOP passed H.R.1, a bill that handed over $1 trillion in tax cuts to the ultra-wealthy and paid for it by slashing #Medicaid and #SNAP.
It also weakened cash supports that help working families, like the Child Tax Credit, and failed to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits.
Rising prices on everything from gas to groceries to healthcare are pushing working folks to the brink.
Instead of offering families relief, Republicans have been pursuing an agenda that benefits billionaires and big corporations over working families.
🧵Our tax code serves the ultra-rich, not working families.
It's not a mistake. It's a GOP policy choice.
This #TaxDay, read on to see how our leaders could choose to deliver a fair tax system for all instead.
Our VP @teriolle.bsky.social testified alongside Yelp's Legal Director on how self-preferencing harms consumers, startups, and small businesses. Take a look at our statement from yesterday’s hearing. #BASEDAct

The principle behind this is common sense: competition on digital marketplaces should be fair, regardless of who owns them. Owning the stadium doesn't mean you get to rig the game.
What does this look like in the real world? Tidal Music costs $9.99/month on their website. Subscribe through your iPhone and it's $12.99. That $3 difference is Apple's 30% commission, passed directly to you. Now multiply that across every app and service on platforms with a billion-plus users.
Last night, the BASED Act (SB 1074) was heard in California's Senate Judiciary Committee for the first time and it passed 8–1. The bill would ban self-preferencing by trillion-dollar tech platforms — stopping them from rigging the marketplaces they own to favor their own products over competitors.
Good news for Illinoisans:
Just moments ago in Springfield, the House of Representatives passed HB 228, legislation to make pricing more transparent and curb hidden junk fees.
Thank you @repbobmorgan.bsky.social for your leadership. Onto the Senate!

Corporations are using AI & personal data to charge people different prices for the same product.
Today, legislators heard testimony on ESILA-backed legislation to ban surveillance pricing. We need fair pricing that protects Illinoisans and lowers costs.

your annual tax season reminder that filing your taxes could be way easier and more affordable - if it weren't for corporations spending millions on lobbying to keep the system deliberately confusing.
this is why we can't have nice things.
Text of graphic: Did you know? The Republican megabill enacted the deepest SNAP cuts in history in July 2025. By December, 2.5 million fewer people were receiving SNAP benefits.
New USDA data show 2.5 million fewer people participated in SNAP in December compared to July, when the Republican megabill (H.R. 1) enacted the deepest SNAP cuts in history. This is only the beginning — even more people will lose SNAP as the full brunt of these cuts take effect.

1/ Is the price you see the price you pay?
Junk fees make it harder for consumers to know what they are paying—and often don’t show up until the last possible moment. 🧵👇🏼

Last month, Trump bragged about his economy in the State of the Union.
The night before, @fobaction.bsky.social held a town hall with everyday Americans to ask: one year in, have Trump and Republicans made your life more affordable?
The answer was clear.

That’s self-preferencing. Google isn’t the only tech giant who uses their dominance to cheat. Apple, Amazon, and Meta do, too.
We’re proud to co-sponsor @scottwiener.bsky.social’s #SB1074 with tech incubator @ycombinator.com.web.brid.gy to ban self-preferencing to protect startups and consumers.
Think about the last time you Googled something— a flight, a product, anything. You likely assumed the top results were the best ones. You didn't get the best answer. You got Google's preferred answer. 🧵
Republicans cut $1 trillion from Medicaid to give tax breaks to their rich friends.
We dare every Republican to listen to Jay and his grandson Hayden's story and still claim that shameful tradeoff was the right choice.
