when we're supporting people in our care,
yes our needs are important too,
but are we really paying attention to theirs or simply following protocol?
When we truly meet a person where they are, really listen & support meeting their needs something really beautiful happens

Aw thank you so much! 🙏 - yes listening to what matters most to people is so important. Limiting risks like walking in the garden or asking ppl to complete dull repetitive tasks for our own records can be so damaging. Instead we must never make assumptions and ensure everyone is ‘free to be me’ 💫

Dementia housing without locked wards? It's a small but growing movement Some senior living communities are caring for people with dementia alongside other residents, not segregated behind locked doors.

Go with the flow
Another theme that came up in recent training days
Really paying attention to what our client or loved one is telling us
This means we need to drop our agenda, listen deeply & ADAPT

A huge thank you to the @dementiacommunity.bsky.social team for sharing so much of the #UKDC2025 Conference with people unable to attend in person. A very worthwhile two days 🙌💫

Fantastic to have the @dementiacarers.bsky.social team here today and to hear a carer’s perspective on technology in dementia care. Thank you for adding your voice to the conversation. Always good to have someone in the room who actually knows how to make the tech behave. #UKDC2025

Panel 1: Hearing from carers and people with dementia about the tech they like now and the tech they would like in the future. Plenty of brilliant ideas already. The future of gadgets may well be born in this room.

More multi-sensory storytelling in a care home yesterday. Using simple everyday objects to bring stories to life with music, tastes, scents & the power of touch. 💞

In this book, a #nurse of 1970s talks of having to recite every patient's details, diagnosis & what happened to them that day. Another ponders "That's what's missing now. We knew who they were."
Sometimes that is very much amiss these days - too target driven, task orientated.

Every #care #home should have one!
So good to hear #CareStaff who are also #UnpaidCarers for #family, now have their own #support #group. Creating time to share stories & lessen their heavy load will ultimately benefit everyone they care for. No one can keep giving care 24/7. Well done Rashielee 🙌

Yes, it’s Jen’s ability to inspire others to follow their dreams, despite the many obstacles in her path, that make her such a powerful role model. I so enjoyed talking to Jen about being a NAPA Ambassador and catching up with all her latest news. Jen’s Monthly column & interview will go live soon!

Lovely to see you over here Debbie. Look forward to seeing more videos over the coming weeks. Let’s hope we can encourage people to open those doors & make the most of outdoor spaces in care settings everywhere. 🙌🌱🪴☀️🪏☕️🫖🌻🌸

Another great night calling a barn dance with these guys on Saturday! Why not book Hedgerow Tipple for your next family celebration or fundraising event. (Option to book us as a duo for lower budgets) 🎶 www.hedgerowtipple.com
