There is less and less subtext to ICE's current policies. Bovino -- who was until recently the face of the agency -- is out here saying it plain.
Incredibly bleak and foreboding stuff.

RETVRN
I'm sure we're all fine
The front page of the Star Tribune on April 22, 2016, following the passing of Prince.
I had students read and brief NYT v. Sullivan for bonus points. 14 turned in assignments. A few were clearly ChatGPT written. Three others wanted to overturn Sullivan because of "fake news."
OK, I'll admit it. This scene was incredible.

good morning
This is glaringly obvious to everyone except for the faces of corporate media, who desperately want to walk a red carpet
A selfie with an adorable calico kitty — Jill — on my shoulder.
Good afternoon from Providence.
More lawsuits means more bogus settlements when news orgs (like NBC, CBS, and ABC) are owned by larger conglomerates with conflicts of interest vis-a-vis the executive branch. It means more outlets going out of business, like Gawker. It means more fear of litigation influencing editorial decisions.
Trump set a horrible precedent by gleefully suing news outlets that published things he didn't like. Now his acolytes are following suit.
Regardless of the outcome, this trend is terrible for press freedom.

"Area Man Continues to Purchase Books Despite Lack of Shelf Space, Shows No Sign of Stopping."
I buy a book almost every day, though it's more of a pathology than a guiding principle.
Where is my WSJ profile?
This is a great question, Jacqueline!
Two posts from therapyjeff that read: Is there no dedicated national helpline for men who are scared they might sexually assault their partner? Or for anyone, for that matter? Like, if they’re experiencing an urge and are worried their fantasies are turning into plans, who can they call immediately? I’m asking because I posted a content about men having these fantasies and what to do about them and I wanted to end it with something like, “if you’re a man experiencing these thoughts or urges please call…” but I can’t find anything.
This was the latter post:
Real outrage.
There seem to be two main posts triggering the outrage.
One is when he posted something too sexually graphic for me to even paraphrase here. (😬)
Another was his response to the CNN "rape academy" story.
"TherapyJeff is being cancelled over on Threads" is something I said to my partner yesterday.
In case anyone is wondering how Online I am. (I am too Online.)
We should hit the road together for a super-depressing double-billing. 🫠
Here's a new report from the WaPo that reinforces one of the points I return to in these talks.
$900,000 (or $750,000) per year means Fuentes makes more than the vast majority of today's working journalists.
Sure there are some bright spots that I cite in the talk. One is the rise in nonprofit, online news outlets in the last 15 years.
But overall the state of the U.S.'s information/news ecosystem is terrible. And the consequences are widespread.
That's why I give these talks wherever I can!
