U.S. map showing total deaths in ICE custody from Oct 2003-present
🚨NEW DATA: As the number of people in ICE custody has grown, deaths have followed. But ICE facilities are black boxes, and they don't want you to know what's happening inside.
The UCLA Law Behind Bars Data Project has stepped in to fill the gap 👇

Federal immigration arrests soared across the Pacific Northwest last year, nearly reaching historic levels, according to new data released Wednesday by the University of Washington Center for Human Rights.
As ICE detention expands, facility-level scrutiny becomes more urgent. Some sites hold hundreds briefly. Others hold thousands for months. DetentionReports.com now shows where each facility fits in the national system and who holds the contracts.

“At 237 facilities, the network has roughly doubled in size since the start of the Trump administration. The geography of ICE’s national detention network has expanded dramatically alongside a nearly $50 billion influx of funding from Congress late last year.”
I really appreciate the solidarity I'm seeing from local small businesses in the Portland area today.
Many are unable to close for the day but are donating 25% of their proceeds to Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition (PIRC).
Does anyone have a list going?
A little girl can’t go to the park with her parents. A mother trembles while taking out the trash. A father peeks through the blinds to see if anyone is watching.
Years earlier, this family faced persecution in Venezuela, but now they’re living in terror in the United States.

For those who are rightly horrified & want to support the Crespo family, here’s a GoFundMe organized by their relatives on their behalf: www.gofundme.com/f/ayuda-huma...
Also goes without saying but, f*ck ICE and f*ck family detention
This is a family we have previously been in touch with. We are currently supporting their broader community & friends left behind here in Oregon. They’ve asked us to share this GoFundMe on behalf of Darianny, Yohendry, and Diana - please share widely! www.gofundme.com/f/ayuda-huma...
A Portland family we know was recently snatched off the streets and detained here, for no known reason. These sites have always been, and will continue to be, inhumane and violent. This reign of terror and torture must end. ICE and all prisons/detention centers must be abolished.
“Four migrants died while in custody of U.S. immigration authorities over the first 10 days of 2026, according to government press releases, a loss of life that followed record detention deaths last year under President Donald Trump.” www.reuters.com/legal/govern...
At the Jan. 13 Community & Public Safety Committee meeting, we'll present and hold a hearing on my “Right to Know Who’s Policing” ordinance to unmask, identify & verify all law enforcement.

Worth noting that people’s “gang affiliation” is often that they are in danger for trying to leave them.
No one should be shot by law enforcement. No one should fear leaving their home because ICE could snatch them at any moment. Yet this is the reality of the local asylum-seeking Venezuelan community and many others right now. ICE and CBP have no place in our communities and must be disbanded.
Due process means everyone gets a day in court. What we have seen from this administration is a reckless disregard for this cherished right, foundational to a functional state. When they murder people in the Caribbean or shoot them in US streets, they are acting as judge, jury and executioner.
Survivors of the Portland CBP shooting and their loved ones now face a smear campaign by the federal government. With information public, we can share we are in touch with their local relatives and many others impacted - folks are shocked and afraid. This terror and violence must end now.

No War for Oil! US out of Venezuela! Rally today SW 10th and Burnside 3:30 pm
No war with Venezuela. Stop the attacks on civilians, invasion of another country, and the demonization of Venezuelans in Venezuela and in the US. Fuck this.
FOUR new deaths in ICE detention. That puts the total this year at 30 people dead; the highest in ICE's history and worse than even during the COVID years.
It's clear that the system is breaking down. Many of these are preventable deaths.
A gift that keeps giving in warmth, fashion, and sharing the Pirc hotline for immigration rapid response in Oregon far and wide!
Folks in Multnomah County- Sign up to share how folks impacted by ICE in MultCo need more than just words- eviction moratorium, rent assistance, bans on surveillance technology like Flock- material and legal support against ICE violence
🚨 ICE is active across Oregon. Families were torn apart in Eugene, Springfield & Cottage Grove. Three Portland schools went into lockdown as ICE circled campuses.

This is wild- shelter beds (for adults) empty while families are waiting 6-9+ months for shelter space. Yet more family shelter, let alone trauma informed and secure family shelter, is not a meaningful part of the city's shelter bed spree 🤔
"We are increasingly seeing the devastating results of this mass deportation effort, which is children raising children," said Heather Yountz, senior immigration attorney at Mass Law Reform Institute. "What do the children do when their mom disappears?" #FamiliesBelongTogether
