There seems to be a broad perception across psychology and neuroscience that work shouldn't be "too technical" in order to reach the broadest possible audience. While I think we should strive for accessibility, I feel that this attitude can also be self-defeating: why are we dumbing down?

I am not sure @anilseth.bsky.social ever said “reality is a controlled hallucination”, I took the aphorism “perception is controlled hallucination” to foreground the role of inside-out processes in perception (which the author concedes are important)…

Days like these make me realise how lucky I am to be part of an interdisciplinary research centre. Gratitude in the air :)
