it was crazy growing up in the early 90s as a yankees fan and reading the backs of baseball cards learning that the yankees drafted all these now-excellent players they traded away for guys who i'd never heard of or who were already gone

When do NHL teams rest top players in close games? Aside from holding players out for trades, something which amounts to maybe 30 total games over the season, this is completely different behavior from what we see in the NHL.

it's the subtext of 70s movies as wide-ranging as SLAP SHOT to THE DEER HUNTER

The thing is that football already has this baked in with the penalty structure ('oh, there was a penalty, this whole play never happened'). Basically everything that happens on a football field is completely contingent; unsatisfying sport

(do not read anything about mishima or the movie if you don't know anything about him)

haven't seen this - does it have a bit about steamed hams? - but mishima: a life in four chapters is the most artful/expeimental biopic i have ever seen

i'm an avowed beatles disliker with boomer parents who listened to them all the time, but i don't think it's some mark of generational flag-planting, i just have bad taste

this is definitely correct from what i've observed. the legacy podcasts i listen(ed) to that are done by 45+ year old people might not have a video option, but pretty much anyone trying to make money has some sort of patreon video tier. and i've heard most of them mention that ad revenues are down

Barney advising Homer to just picture his audience in their underwear

I can only think of bad advice I've received from TV, but I also know you know how to write well and give a great speech, so you'll do great. Alternately:

those of us who were born in 1982 grew up in a unique time and have had some really interesting life experiences, but what really makes me laugh is when people born before or after 1982 claim that they’ve also had life experiences. get serious. no you haven’t

you are right about everything here except that Jeter is an example of the Catcher's Fallacy, that is absurd. Jeter was league average or above in slugging for the majority of his career, probably around average in ISO, he was not a soft-hitting player.

no but this question just made me think of the party poker jingle from 20 years ago, doubt that means it's good though

"Chicago Pope" is like a 1994 SNL sketch. Airs at 12:20am, the only gag is that Chris Farley has a mustache and is doing a big accent. David Spade and the guest host (Joe Mantegna) keep breaking during it.

god it sucks to go through this again, doesn't it ever stop

just flashbacks to brodeur's little press conference in march 2014 when he wrested the net away from cory and was terrible

a healthy markstrom does give them the best chance, but i think that ship has sailed. think 2017-18. a healthy schneider gave them the best chance, but he was just not healthy, and they were exceptionally lucky to win his first playoff start.

there's two more back to backs this season and those should be the remaining two markstrom starts

1 year ago 2 0 1 0

yeah they can't play this way, there has to be more of a focus on offensive zone time when ahead - got lucky on monday, got burned tonight, markstrom giving them a goal didn't help

I'm not saying any of those picks were wrong, I don't think they were, but now there's way too many D in the organization. Obviously once you get to the 5th round or whatever, take whatever position, but whatever 2nds and 3rds the Devils do end up with this year should be spent on forwards.
